U.S. Accidentally Drops Bomb On Own Base

A YouTube video showing the U.S. accidentally bombing its own base has recently come to light.

The incident, which took place in September 2012, shows a 500-lb. bomb, which was intended for a group of Taliban fighters, instead detonating close to the US base that launched it.

"This was a major mistake ...,' a retired Air Force colonel told CNN. "The way targeting works is, you have to get the coordinates right."

According to CNN, an investigation has determined the air crew had the wrong coordinates.

'Unfortunately in wars, this does happen," the Air Marshall added.

The "major mistake" is unfortunately brewing some bad press for the U.S. Air Force. Headlines are calling the footage "shocking" and "horrifying."

Ultimately, the incident was ruled a pure accident and no one was charged over it.
