U.S. Accidentally Drops Bomb On Own Base

U.S. Accidentally Drops Bomb On Own Base

A YouTube video showing the U.S. accidentally bombing its own base has recently come to light.

The incident, which took place in September 2012, shows a 500-lb. bomb, which was intended for a group of Taliban fighters, instead detonating close to the US base that launched it.

"This was a major mistake ...,' a retired Air Force colonel told CNN. "The way targeting works is, you have to get the coordinates right."

According to CNN, an investigation has determined the air crew had the wrong coordinates.

'Unfortunately in wars, this does happen," the Air Marshall added.

The "major mistake" is unfortunately brewing some bad press for the U.S. Air Force. Headlines are calling the footage "shocking" and "horrifying."

Ultimately, the incident was ruled a pure accident and no one was charged over it.

Weren't we just laughing at the taliban for blowing up like 30 of their own guys in a training exercise? We spent millions on the best technology and they did it on a budget. Isn't war hilarious....ly stupid?

Besides being old news, this piece is one-sided - to be a complete story, it should state how many tens of thousands of strikes were on target. CNN doesn't have a track record that good when it comes to the facts!

Media always blows stuff out of proportion. "Close to the US Base --- " How close? No injuries. Why is the footage "Shocking and Horrifying???????????????????"

By the way, Air Marshall is a British Army term -- there is no such term in the U.S. Air Force -- , so doubt if this report is even real, but won't stop the media from reporting it.

A major mistake? No one died. If 1, 5, 10 or 100 or more were killed, that would be a major mistake.
War is hell... People are going to die... This is the 21st Century. When are we going to be civilized?
