Family builds awesome luge course in backyard

Family Create Luge Course in Back-Yard

Over the last few years, the Evans family in Massachusetts have taken part in a winter tradition. Each year when it snows, the family works together to create a backyard luge course.

According to Christopher Evans, "this one is by far the most fun with its wide and high turns. I use a snow blower to start, but it also required a lot of shoveling, shaping and water to ice down the surface."

"The track starts on the deck of the house and has three high bank turns. Kids from the neighborhood zoom down the course, sometimes falling off the turns," Evans comments under the YouTube video.

... And you thought that swing set in your backyard was exciting!

That is what I have done for my kids 20 yrs ago until they were older enough and spent more time at ski mountain lodge. Now I have done it again for two years now for my grandkids and they love it.. And yes, lots of works but worth the smile on kids' face. Only have one turn but the ride last about little over 50 yards..

This is cool. Reminds of the time when I lived in connecticut and we had a hugh storm come through and dump 3 feet snow. Then it started to melt and we had a flood in the backyard. Well the temp dropped again and we had a hugh skating rink in the yard and all the neighbors came over to ice skate.

For the last 80 or more years kids have been doing stuff like this. That is if you didn't have liberal parents that would even think of suing a neighbor. Kids now are afraid to do anything for fear of getting hurt. No school yard fisty cuffs anymore, it's a gun. Lame society we have become. All tied to their cell phone, I pad or latest tech.

Makes me wish I could leave California for a week and visit my relatives in Iowa once a year.

When I was in high school, many years ago, a friend;s father built one that far exceeds this one. He built a wooden frame down a long hill on his property, then actually spent days, spraying it with a hose, and lining it with ice. No video cameras back then, or it would have been a UTUBE hit !

Fun, friends, neighbors, tons of outside exercise, and great childhood memories. What could be better?

A major lawsuit when someone's kid breaks their neck becomes a quadriplegic and the family who built the course loses everything.
