5 things to know about the Sochi Olympics

Jacobellis Fails To Qualify For Finals
SOCHI, Russia (AP) - Fast Five, Sunday edition: Five things you'll want to know about the 2014 Winter Olympics.

CZECH GOLD IN SNOWBOARDCROSS: Eva Samkova of the Czech Republic dominated in three races to win her country's first gold in snowboardcross. Her runs went wire-to-wire, free of the chaos that claimed several racers including Lindsey Jacobellis o Park City, Utah, the sport's greatest racer who has consistently fallen short in the Olympics.

CROSS-COUNTRY SWEEP: Sweden successfully defended its Olympic gold in the men's 4-by-10-kilometer cross-country relay. The country became the first in 42 years to win both the men's and women's team cross-country events in the same Winter Games.

WELCOME, INDIA: India's Olympic athletes can finally see their flag in the mountain village. The flag-raising symbolically marked the end of a 14-month IOC ban because of corruption issues with India's governing sports body.

CHU HURT, BUT WILL PLAY: Julie Chu hurt her left hand in practice, but not seriously enough to keep her out of the U.S. women's hockey team's Olympic semifinal against Switzerland, coach Katey Stone said Sunday. Chu has played in every Olympics since Salt Lake City in 2002.

MEDAL MOVERS: Sure, Russia didn't get a big hockey win against the United States, but it hauled in more medals than any other country on Saturday and moved ahead of the U.S. as the Sochi Games reached its midpoint. Five more gold medals were being awarded Sunday.

Cried with Bode Miller when he emotionally broke down. News people were asking him about his brother, Chelone, who died last year - he was 29 years old. We love you Bode and your little brother.

The woman interviewing him shortly after he won the bronze was a complete jerk with her incessant questions about his brother. This is a prime example of why many women don't belong on the sports sidelines. Put them on the red carpet where they belong.

But MOST of those are BRONZE medals! Germany has 7 gold. That is what people look at--not the total count.

So they are BRONZE, we at home sitting on our couches look down on an Olympic BRONZE medal . Now that's pathetic!

Campell1212.. I find these statements about "native" and "immigrants" pretty ridiculous. If you want to go back to who is who - well go to the "beginning" Cavemen? Forever mankind has gone from one place to another. Countries and people shoved aside, taken over, or assimilated, even as recent as WWII and later. The Vikings did it, the Romans did it, the Huns did, etc. etc. etc.; Austria lost South Tirol to Italy; Poland, oh well why go on!

You media bastards are something else. Just saw the talking head interviewing Bode Miller after his Bronze medal win. Wasn't a great interview where she emotionally broke the man on international T.V. You did what your bosses wanted, you made him take, what should have been, his private moment and dug until you made him break, nice shot of him crawling away for consolation from his wife. Why don't you and your kind just stay in Russia, it fits you.

The televison spokeswoman who interviewed Bode Miller at the conclusion of the event asked the most ridiculous and insensitive questions of him. It was obvious he was emotional and she kept asking him how he felt about things...she should not be allowed to interview athletes after they lose, or even if they win!! Her questions were inane and juvenile in addition to being rude and insensitive.

Sochi Olympics have been great. Who cares about the weather or missteps here & there. That just goes with Olympics. The Russians have poured out their pride...and monies to put their first foot forward. Highlight: That the Spirit of the Olympics have been there by many people from different countries to help out each other with broken equipment, money to help the Jamaican bobsled team get there and many more. There should be a special award for this open heartedness???? Even un-unspoken "Atta girl/boy." Call them Linda Awards!

This ridiculous obnoxious women Christine Cooper should be fired by NBC. Pushing Bode Miller to answer these idiotic questions to create drama was way out of line. Good reason not to use many of these former athletes as sideline reporters.
Johnny Wier is another example of an annoying former skater criticizing every skaters moves.
