'Juno' actress Ellen Page comes out as gay

Actress Ellen Page:

Ellen Page, the well-known star of "Juno" and the upcoming "X-Men: Days of Future Past" gave an emotional and moving speech at Time to THRIVE, a conference supporting LGBTQ youth.

The actress announced to the Las Vegas audience Friday, "I'm here today because I'm gay. And because maybe I can make a difference. To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility."

Page said she felt she had been "lying by omission" by not coming out and revealing her true self. "I suffered for years because I was scared to be out," Page told the audience. She opened up about the pain she felt, starting with her entrance into the limelight after 2007's 'Juno' became a hit.

As soon as the news broke, many fans Tweeted in support of the 26-year-old star.

According to The Wrap, Ellen Page appeared in a 'SNL' skit in 2008 that made many speculate whether or not the actress was a lesbian. The sketch shows Page returning home from a Melissa Etheridge, overwhelmed by the experience.

Page was nominated for an Oscar for her role in 'Juno' and has appeared in many more films since.

Like I have been saying, nobody really cares about "The Bachelor" or "The Kardashians" either but it is crammed down our throats. "The Bachelor" is heterosexuals at pathetic play and "The Kardashians are rich heterosexuals behaving badly.

There is absolutely nothing wrong about being a crack snacker - feeling ashamed of it however is perhaps the saddest part of it all because it is an indictment of our hateful society and warped religiosity that teaches we are only allowed to love those of the opposite sex. Crass stupidity on our part. We need to learn to respect the right to be different and live in harmony with our own God given natural instincts. God bless Juno - she had guts that most of us could only dream of having.

I look forward to the day that people don't feel the need to "come out". They are not "in" anything. They are just people, and when we get to that time where your sexual preference does not define you, we will know we have arrived.
