16 passengers stuck on roller coaster amidst a thunderstorm

16 Passengers Stuck on Roller Coaster Amidst a Thunderstorm

Passengers got a surprisingly short ride (and a terribly long wait) on Busch Garden's longest roller coaster, the Cheetah Hunt.

'Thrillseekers trapped 60 feet above the ground on a Busch Gardens roller coaster. 16 people were stuck for more than an hour,' 'Fox &* Friends' reported. They were stuck at an angle of about 30 degrees.

To top it all off, the malfunction occurred in the middle of a thunderstorm! Rescuers say lightning was seen within three miles of the coaster at one point, WFLA reported.

Firefighters were dispatched a little after 2:30 p.m. and used a crane from a ladder truck to retrieve the passengers. Luckily, no one was hurt in the process, but it seemed to be a pretty nerve-wracking situation.

The ordeal was probably as terrifying as the coaster itself, which launches riders to a speed of 60 MPH in just a few seconds.

The park announced the passengers were safely brought to solid ground a little after 6 p.m., and the coaster was closed down for the remainder of the day.

'Park officials don't know why the Cheetah Hunt coaster got stuck about 60 feet in the air right after the ride started. They say they are going to do a thorough investigation before they reopen it,' HLN reported.

This is a great ride, but I too wonder if there was a thunderstorm in the area with lightning, why was it running..I was there in August and the whole park's rides were shut down because there was lightning in a 10 mile radius...Having said that, I hope they find out what was wrong with the ride.....

I have been on Cheetah Hunt several times without any issues, things like this will happen from time to time. It has hundreds of thousands of moving parts and electronics, things happen. It is still one of the best roller coasters I have been on.

That was one nasty storm, wind, rain and lightning was awful. I would not have wanted to be on that coaster during that storm.

This happened to me at Disneyland, February 4th on Space Mountain. The coaster stopped and we were evacuated from the ride and escorted to the exits. At least we didn't have to deal with the bad weather since the coaster is inside the building.

There are serious problems with this ride. I was in the park when it got stuck three times for over a half hour each time. It left people sitting In the sun sweltering. Probably a computer glitch.

THis coster has been a head ach for a very long time now. My wife and I have been to Busch Gardens three this past year and three times this very same coster broke down as we were waiting in line for the ride. Plus, when there is lighting in the area the coster automatically shuts down. Oh yes, Busch gardens always says it was mechanical problems but it's just a way of keeping the massive crouds waiting for the ride to hush up and just bear it...

Free tickets? Are you kidding..Attorney for a Class Action Lawsuit is more like it and I hope that they get a fair compensation. You SHOULD never allow to operate since there are in danger of being struck by lightening while being rescue in a horrendous.. NEVER take the first settlement especially when you're being exposed in harm way.
