LA newscaster apologizes for black actor mix-up

Samuel L. Jackson Eviscerates Anchor Who Confuses Him With Laurence Fishburne

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles newscaster apologized to Samuel L. Jackson on Monday for confusing him with fellow actor Laurence Fishburne during a live TV interview.

KTLA entertainment reporter Sam Rubin was interviewing Jackson on Monday morning about the film "RoboCop" when he asked the actor if he'd gotten a lot of reaction to his recent Super Bowl commercial.

When Jackson asked, "What Super Bowl commercial?" Rubin realized his mistake and began to apologize. But it was too late.

"You're as crazy as the people on Twitter," an animated Jackson, who was doing the interview by satellite from Atlanta, told Rubin. "I'm not Laurence Fishburne. We don't all look alike. We may be all black and famous but we don't all look alike."

As Rubin, who is white, tried to apologize, a smiling Jackson went on at length, listing various black actors and their commercials. Video of the exchange quickly went viral.

"I'm the 'What's in Your Wallet,' black guy," he said of his own commercial for a credit-card company. "He's the car black guy. "Morgan Freeman is the other credit-card black guy. You only hear his voice, though, so you probably won't confuse him with Laurence Fishburne."

Fishburne, as the character Morpheus from the "Matrix" movies, appeared in the Super Bowl commercial for Kia automobiles.

The pair eventually got back to talking about "RoboCop," with Jackson telling Rubin how highly he regards Michael Keaton and Gary Oldman, who appear in the film with him.

"You do know who they all are though, right?" he teased. "Just in case they have some of them on the show. Do some work. Do some research. Make sure you don't confuse them with those other white actors."

When he returned to the air 30 minutes later, Rubin apologized profusely, saying he has interviewed Jackson several times and does indeed know who he is.

"I really pride myself on the fact that unlike a lot of people who do this kind of work, more often than not I really do know what I'm talking about," he said. "But I didn't 30 minutes ago and I'm really embarrassed about it, and I very much apologize to Samuel L. Jackson and anyone else who was offended for what was a very amateur mistake."

Jackson acted the fool. He kept bullying even after Rubin apologized multiple times. Jackson could have been gracious and forgiving, but no, he had to throw his big ego around. Never cared for him anyway and now know why.

S.L. Jackson, the guy who has made a career off the "F" Bomb? Not a chance. Has everyone forgotton that it was the "gracious" Sam L Jackson who opened the Acadamy Awards one year with "Let's get this M-F started". Such class, what dignity.

There is a HUGE difference between Jackson and Fishburne. Lawrence can act and has a body of good work in several different types of film and stage presence. That other guy does crapola like snakes on a plane. YUK

It was sad about the mix up but for him to bring up Black guy stuff was a bit out of line. "we all look alike".

Stop the whinning, you make a ton of money quit freaking out. Your a great actor but this may push my opinion about a proffessional actor OVER re-acting.

Sad thing is when he goes on and says he is not a criminal in the rob-cop movie. Who is StereoTyping Who?

The guy made an honest mistake and he admitted it.

What about Regina Denning, the truck driver pulled from his truck during the LA Riots minding his own buisness and was beaten serverly by American Africans. Now lets move on folks.

Point taken??? Some times they bring it on them selves. But there are every race that has a bad element. I just wish that they could not say the N word at all. To them selves and in music. drives me crazy.

Plus you were born in AMERICA, Not Africa. So I think it should be stated American African. As with American Hispanic Or and American Asian. And so fourth.

Like Rodney King said? " Can't We All Get Along?"

Well, the way I see it..Samuel Jackson is a professional who has worked very hard. He has been a successful actor in many movies dating back whew..almost 30 years has to be. He is entitled to be addressed by his correct name by the person whose business it is to know his correct name. The analogy involving if he was going to mistake the same mistake with the white guys.."white guys"may not have been politically correct but the analogy was right on point. He is a reporter..it is his job to know the person he is interviewing name. I have never seen an Asian American referred to as American Asian..but whatever makes you happy...the reporter was most definitely correct in stating it was a very amatuer mistake. That is his job, is it too much to ask that he do it correctly? That's like a doctor treating you for the flu when you have breast cancer or something. Meaning he is required and should know who he is interviewing and what questions he plans on asking. May have been live but wasn't impromptu...at all.

Do you really want to equate a name slip to cancer & flu; I can't tell you the trouble that I've had with my name and never got upset, but Jackson did try to make the best of it; so, I'll give him some credit...

Jackson is a racist idiot and I am tired of his angry blackman schtick (except he isn't joking). This guy has anger management issues and some kind of chip on his shoulder about something. He somehow forgets that his talents have afforded him to become a multi-multi millionaire in America. So why his is so nasty, I do not know.

Tom: because his ego is so large he can not understand that people do make mistakes. Apparently he NEVER MAKES MISTAKES.
WITH THAT UGLY PUSS of his I WOULD KEEP QUIET. He does not endear himself with his prattle that he kept going on and on and on. Stupid man.

How many times did he have to say he's sorry to that racist jackson??? I was mistaken for a movie star at the airport once...the guy kept following me with paper and pen for an autograph...did I shout at him "no it's some other white guy"!!! Jackson's an angry turd and should be happy for his fame and fortune in life!
