U2, Timberlake, Obama to appear on new Fallon show

NEW YORK (AP) - Jimmy Fallon is premiering his new show with a bang.

NBC announced Monday that Will Smith will appear on the Feb. 17 debut of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." U2 will perform.

Justin Timberlake will close out the week, which will also include appearances by first lady Michelle Obama, Will Ferrell, Bradley Cooper, Kristen Wiig and Jerry Seinfeld.

Lady Gaga, Arcade Fire and Tim McGraw will perform during the week.

The first four episodes of Fallon's new show will air at midnight following the Sochi Winter Olympics. Its regular time slot is 11:35 p.m. Eastern.

Fallon replaces Jay Leno, who hosted "The Tonight Show" for 22 years. "Saturday Night Live" alum Seth Meyers is Fallon's successor; his "Late Night" show debuts Feb. 24.

Hate to say it, but they are searching for another Johnny Carson, and it can't be done. Tired of the all politicos on these late night shows. When I want to watch politicians there are other channels to go to.
Cutsie politicians making cutsie comments on late night is not quite entertainment.

Seems many didn't watch Jay Leno either. He did have Michelle Obama on many times and had many other political persons on his show and voiced his political views sternly. I too am upset about Jay not being "The Tonight Show" host but no other late night show host could come closer to him than Jimmy Fallon. I have watched Jimmy since "SNL" and think he is second to Leno (which is a huge compliment). Jay is no doubt in a league of his own. I will watch the show before coming to quick judgement, but am very curious how this will play out.

My memory of the "Tonight Show" goes back to Jack Parr. Leno did a great job, and even with NBC's nonsense, left more or less on his own terms. Hope Jimmy makes it work. I never liked Conan.

Maybe Jimmy will make it if he can stop laughing at his own jokes... not cool, Jimbo!

Jack Paar and Johnny Carson WERE the Tonight Show... Jay did better than anyone imagined...

the 4th J in line, we'll see... he shouldn't bring his Saturday Night Live mentality with him and he might do well.

Johnny Carson laughed at his own jokes. People just naturally resist change.

Johnny was very good, however, Steve Allen was the best.

Remeber when the show was in NY? It was always funny when Johnny would mention Dr. Frank Field and talk about the NBC Commisary.
