Lindsey Vonn walks the runway on crutches at the Red Dress Collection
Valentine's Day is nearly upon us, and though we usually spend this time of year trying to forget that Feb. 14 is even a thing, there is always enough fanfare to remind us that it's happening. But there are some V-Day-themed festivities we can get behind, like the Heart Truth Red Dress Collection fashion show, put on by the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute to raise awareness about heart disease.
- Olympic Skier Lindsey Vonn walks the runway at Go Red For Women The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection fashion show.
- Wearing Cynthia Rowley, Vonn was all smiles as she walked the runway with the help of her crutches.
We're missing her at the Sochi 2014 Olympics, but she stepped out to support a big cause -- raising her crutches in the air.
- Literally nothing can get this woman down... nothing!
- Vonn walked in the finale as well, along with tons of other stars.
- Backstage, Vonn told Fashionista that she's seriously missing her pumps: "I love heels, it's killing me to wear flats!"
This year's lineup of celebs included NeNe Leakes, who twirled in a Dolce & Gabbana number, Bella Thorne, Taryn Manning, all-round bastion of awesomeness, Joan Jett, and more.
But it wasn't just singers, actresses and TV personalities who strutted their stuff last night. There were a couple athletes in the house, including Olympic alpine skier Lindsey Vonn, who sadly had to skip the Sochi Olympics, as she is still recovering from a knee injury and subsequent surgeries from the past year. When we heard she was going to be walking in the show, we wondered, "How?" guessing that maybe she had transformed into some sort of bionic woman.
Turns out, the secret to her mobility was less sensational: Vonn hit the runway with a pair of crutches and her trusty Prada flats. "It's really been tough to find flats that look good," she told us. But while her peachy, pointy-toe numbers have been a "great investment," she's been missing her stilettos. "I love heels, it's killing me to wear flats!"
Indeed, Vonn has had to make some sartorial adjustments thanks to her surgeries, but she's picked up some tricks for coping with the results of going under the knife. Her secret to hiding her battle wounds actually comes from the designer who whipped up her sheer-paneled dress last night. "Cynthia Rowley makes some cool designer Band-Aids, and I actually wore them on the red carpet a few days ago to cover my scar." However, on this night, she chose to leave them behind, showing off her stems in all their glory.
