These Are the Movie Quotes Everyone Gets Wrong

You might be surprised by how many popular movie quotes you're remembering just a bit wrong.

'The Wizard of Oz'
Though most people say 'Looks like we're not in Kansas anymore,' or 'Toto, I don't think we're in Kansas anymore,' those quotes aren't quite right.

Dorothy actually says 'Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.'

'The Silence of the Lambs'
If you've always thought Hannibal Lecter greets Clarice by saying 'Hello, Clarice,' we've got news for you. It's actually 'Good evening, Clarice.' How polite!

'Field of Dreams'
That whispering voice? It's not quietly murmuring 'If you build it, they will come.' The correct quote is 'If you build it, he will come.'

'Wall Street'
Though Gordon Gekko definitely thinks greed is good, his quote is actually 'Greed, for lack of a better word, is good.'

'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'
The Queen says 'Magic mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?' Most people think it's 'Mirror, mirror on the wall' ... and most people are incorrect.

'The Empire Strikes Back'
This might blow your mind, but when Vader reveals his true identity to Luke, he does not say 'Luke, I am your father.' He actually says 'No, I am your father.'

How many of these quotes have you been saying wrong? Don't worry, we won't judge.

Original: (from the book)
"Now the queen was the most beautiful woman in all the land, and very proud of her beauty. She had a mirror, which she stood in front of every morning, and asked:

Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Who in this land is fairest of all?
And the mirror always said:

You, my queen, are fairest of all.
And then she knew for certain that no one in the world was more beautiful than she."

Different book:
After a year had passed the king took to himself another wife.
She was a beautiful woman, but proud and haughty, and she could
not bear that anyone else chould surpass her in beauty. She
had a wonderful looking-glass, and when she stood in front of it
and looked at herself in it, and said,
looking-glass, looking-glass, on the wall,
who in this land is the fairest of all.

The looking-glass answered,
thou, o queen, art the fairest of all.

Then she was satisfied, for she knew that the looking-glass spoke
the truth."

So this author apparently thinks the movie was the original, and didn't realize it was a book. That said, the books we read in English still are translations from the German the brothers Grimm wrote. However, clearly the writer of this article assuredly did not research the German edition, as he didn't realize there was a story in English, let alone German.

While you're correct about the quotes from the books, the title of the online article is "These are the movie quotes everyone gets wrong". So, clearly he's referring to quotes from the movies with which everyone knows the script writers take a little artistic license. Just relax and enjoy the story.

I got, "The Wizard of Oz," and, "The Empire Strikes Back" correct. I didn't get "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," correct. I read the answers concerning , "Field of Dreams," before answering and am not sure what my answer would've been. I'm not familiar with the other two.

P.S. You can't quote someone incorrectly. If you don't say what they said, word for word, you're not quoting them incorrectly, you're just not quoting them. You're only quoting them if you do say what they said word for word.

I always thought Dorothy said "I HAVE a feeling........", not "I've a feeling........".

For "Field of Dreams" it was at first, "If you build it, he will come" as the article states, but once Kevin Costner started building it, it became "If you build it, they will come". They are both in the movie.

as previously mentioned: never does the voice say "they" see script at http://www.imsdb.com/scripts/Field-of-Dreams.html
Its referring to his father, "build it and he will come" it also says go the distance and ease his pain...
Luv that movie as well

Actually, "Mirror, Mirror" comes from the story which Disney adapted into an animated movie, taking liberty with the original words.

Exactly. I can't believe they even included that one.

They included it because people misquote the line from the film, not the story. DUH.
