Clay Aiken to run for Congress in North Carolina

'American Idol' Alum Clay Aiken Running For Congress
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Former "American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken is running for Congress in North Carolina.

Aiken said Wednesday he'll seek the Democratic nomination for the seat currently held by Rep. Renee Ellmers.

The 35-year-old Aiken is expected to face former state commerce secretary Keith Crisco of Asheboro and licensed professional counselor Toni Morris of Fayetteville in the Democratic primary.

Aiken has been a special education teacher in Wake County. He says he decided to put his entertainment career on hold and seek to represent the state's 2nd Congressional District.

He says he considers Washington to be dysfunctional and will focus on jobs and the economy and the importance of education.

Ellmers faces radio talk show host Frank Roche of Cary in the Republican primary.

If you watched every episode of the Celebrity Apprentice - Donald Trump show, you would have seen that he is one smart guy, plus he was firm with his views and tough when he needed to be, but did it all with dignity. He was well liked by the others on the show and I was impressed with how he handled tough situations. I hope he is given a chance to show what he can do.

I have listened to Mr. Aiken talk when he was on the Trump show. He displayed knowledge and he is a caring person. We need someone who is fresh, not tainted by politics. Give him a chance.

When a TEA Party non-politician runs for office, we hear how great it will be for a real person to be in office, but when a Democrat without political experience runs, we hear questions about his political qualifications.

"Fair and Balanced" thinking at it's best!!

Indeed ! We've had enough with Democrats who have no experience, We have a POTUS who is killing this Nation with his lack of knowledge on how to create jobs and stimulate an economy.

Plain truth is he can't be any worse then the rest of them. I'm a republican, but with both parties looking bad, who knows what he can or cannot do? The biggest problem is that the Country is leaning heavily towards socialism. This is what Obama has been pushing us towards since he came to office. He hid it in his first term, but its all coming out now, bit by bit. He has ruined the Country and almost brought it to it's knees. We cannot allow this to continue and must impeach him! Soon!

Split personality issues. First you don't like anyone including your own party but next it's all Obama's fault.

Make up your mind man.

Mike, I sure don't know where you came to the conclusion that Obama almost brought this country to it's knees. First I want you to know that I'm not a democrat or republican. But I don't know what kind of meds your on or what you been drinking, but this country was already on it's knees from Bush. Our financial banking system was down the tubs, bankruptcy everywhere, our credit rating was greatly reduced, our stock market was collapsing, banks begging for free handouts from our gov't, unemployment at a all time high, the list goes on and on. This is the really and it all was before Obama took office. Alot of these things actually started before Obama was even elected. This is not myth, but fact.
