Dylan Farrow resurrects Allen molestation claim

NEW YORK (AP) - Dylan Farrow renewed molestation allegations against Woody Allen, claiming the movie director sexually assaulted her when she was 7 after he and actress Mia Farrow adopted her.

In an open-letter to The New York Times posted online Saturday, Dylan Farrow commented about the 1992 incident. In a letter to op-ed columnist Nicholas Kristof, she said she was moved to speak out because of Hollywood's continued embrace of Allen.

"That he got away with what he did to me haunted me as I grew up," wrote Farrow. "I was stricken with guilt that I had allowed him to be near other little girls."

The New York Times reported that Allen declined comment. Also, representatives for Allen and for former partner Mia Farrow also did not immediately return requests for comment Saturday from The Associated Press. Allen, who attended Saturday night's New York Knicks game, has long maintained his innocence.

In the letter, Dylan Farrow claims that in 1992 at the family's Connecticut home, Allen led her to a "dim, closet-like attic" and "then he sexually assaulted me." Farrow didn't specify Allen's actions, but described other abusive behavior.

Farrow said Allen would have her get in bed with him, and at other times "place his head in my naked lap and breathe in and breathe out."

"For as long as I could remember, my father had been doing things to me that I didn't like," said Farrow. "These things happened so often, so routinely, so skillfully hidden from a mother that would have protected me had she known, that I thought it was normal."

Allen was investigated on child molestation claims for the alleged 1992 incident in Connecticut, but prosecutors elected not to charge him.

The handling of the investigation was criticized after Litchfield County state attorney Frank S. Maco said in a press conference there was "probable cause" to charge Allen, although he chose not to. A disciplinary panel found that Maco may have prejudiced the then-ongoing custody battle between Allen and Mia Farrow by making an accusation without formal charges.

The 1992 allegation came shortly after Allen became involved with Mia Farrow's adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn. Allen, then in his mid-50s, was not the adoptive father of Previn, who was about 19 at the time. The two married in 1997 and have two adopted daughters.

Though many fans never forgave Allen for his romance with Previn, the director's career was largely uninterrupted. He has continued to release a new film almost every year, with his latest, "Blue Jasmine," earning three Academy Award nominations, including a screenwriting nomination for Allen.

Dylan Farrow's open-letter was precipitated by Allen being honored at the Golden Globes with the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award. Allen didn't attend as he largely abstains from awards shows. But during the telecast's tribute, Ronan Farrow tweeted: "Missed the Woody Allen tribute - did they put the part where a woman publicly confirmed he molested her at age 7 before or after Annie Hall?"

Ronan Farrow is the lone biological child of Allen and Mia Farrow, though Farrow has said her former husband Frank Sinatra could be his father. Ronan Farrow is estranged from Allen.

A rebuke followed last week when Robert Weide, director of the PBS "American Masters" documentary on Allen, argued in a lengthy account on the Daily Beast that many were unaware of the facts of Allen's relationship with Previn and that the incident with Dylan Farrow was unproven.

Dylan Farrow, who said she now lives happily married in Florida under another name, urged people not to forget her side of the story and lamented "a world that celebrates her tormenter."

She isn't suing him in civil court, which she could do. So, there goes the theory that she's only doing this for money. If the creeps in Hollywood didn't keep worshiping him, she would have probably let it go. He OBVIOUSLY was doing the same, if not worse to the daughter he married. It's a pattern, people! At the least.....he has a problem with inappropiate behavior with children, and at the worst, sexual abuse of children. It's sad to see people take the world of this man over this woman. Mia Farrow looked like a child when he hooked up with her. It's pretty obvious to me, and to anybody with half a brain what his sexual preference is! Hollywood is so perverted, they don't give a damn what he did to children. Their brains are fried from all the drugs, and power they seem to have over those that gush over them! Pitiful!

Dylan, take him to court with all you have, if this is what happened. The media is explosive. Then go on with your life.

If he had a questionable relationship with one adopted daughter (that ultimately became his wife), why not another? Why are her accusations so far fetched?

This pervert took nude pics of his now wife when she was a minor and he was supposedly with Mia Farrow. He's NEVER been held accountable, especially by his peers in the entertainment industry, all those that fashion themselves the champions of the "common man." Never seeing another Woody Allen "anything" is just a small penance for this disgusting and vile man to pay, despite having found an industry willing to overlook his victims in lieu of what they laud as his creative talent. Disgusting.

My concern is for the 2 adopted daughters he has now. Once a pedafile, always a pedafile. Those poor girls are living with him, and the cops have to live with themselves. BTW, after Dylan was examined by doctors, there was enough evidence to charge him. They just chose not to.

You've got IT! jandi432 February 02 2014 at 1:44 PM

Exactly, They had enough evidence but the chose to respect the mental wellness of the girl who had been tortured by his abuse, enough already was the thought then.

The two adopted girls do not stand a chance. Of course they adopted two girls! His wife had been groomed from ten to 18. And her intelligence is what they call "diminished", she is a special needs girl grown up. She should be in a specially-assisted living quarter, not living with her former "father" and raising kids with him. She will not know how to protect them. And he was very clever. He knows he got them at the youngest age when he could have started his shenanigans when they were babies - this is the sickest part. These kinds of perverts have no floor for how low they will go to get their sick needs met.

Hollywood has turned a blind eye to molested children for a long, long time. It's sad. Beyond sad for the kids.

I didn't even like it that Woody Allen totally stole "Streetcar Named Desire" I mean Cate Blanchett was just doing a modern Blanche. Why should he be honored for ripping off the great Tennessee Williams anyway?!

Woody Allen, Hollywood's Favorite Old Pervert

No one could really know what was going through the mind of 78 year old Woody Allen when Ronan Farrow sarcastically tweeted immediately following last month’s 71st Golden Globes Awards show.

After Allen received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement, Farrow went on Twitter to tweet, “Missed the Woody Allen tribute–did they put the part where a woman publicly confirmed he molested her at age 7 before or after Annie Hall?”

As per habit, Allen didn’t show up for his umpteenth award and dispatched one his idolators, former live-in Diane Keaton of Annie Hall fame, to pick it up.

What Mr. Farrow was thinking in that tweet is pretty obvious, intense musings surely shared by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and, indeed, by all of Hollywood who knew very well what he meant and none of whom saw fit to comment–or refute. After all, Woody Allen is a living treasure, an unparalled icon in Tinsel Town, and who would dare to be so presumptive as to cite him as a serial child molestor?

Bestowed by the Golden Globes for ”outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment,” the Cecil B. DeMille Award is clearly not based on a recipient’s character and integrity any more than character and integrity influence Oscar nominations.

Similarly, no one can really know what Allen was thinking after he read the account of the former 7 year old, Ronan’s molested woman, published in the New York Times, an open letter written by none other than Ronan’s sister Dylan Farrow, Allen’s reputed biological daughter.

Like the weather, everyone seems to talk about child sex abuse but few people ever do anything about it, least of all in Hollywood where serial pedophilia is virtually endemic. (See “Woody Allen’s Bloodied Hands and Bloodied Children,” http://tinyurl.com/klzee4h and “Hooray for Hollywood Pedophiles,” http://tinyurl.com/nxy7jbf.)

Farrow’s tweet was quickly dismissed by such Allen-Twitter loyalists as Antonio Vantaggiato who wrote, ”Sorry to hear @RonanFarrow’s rage, and @thelist which fuels it, but Woody is one of the greatest film directors and deserved the tribute,” in essence saying, “So what if he’s a child predator!” . . .
