Dylan Farrow resurrects Allen molestation claim

NEW YORK (AP) - Dylan Farrow renewed molestation allegations against Woody Allen, claiming the movie director sexually assaulted her when she was 7 after he and actress Mia Farrow adopted her.

In an open-letter to The New York Times posted online Saturday, Dylan Farrow commented about the 1992 incident. In a letter to op-ed columnist Nicholas Kristof, she said she was moved to speak out because of Hollywood's continued embrace of Allen.

"That he got away with what he did to me haunted me as I grew up," wrote Farrow. "I was stricken with guilt that I had allowed him to be near other little girls."

The New York Times reported that Allen declined comment. Also, representatives for Allen and for former partner Mia Farrow also did not immediately return requests for comment Saturday from The Associated Press. Allen, who attended Saturday night's New York Knicks game, has long maintained his innocence.

In the letter, Dylan Farrow claims that in 1992 at the family's Connecticut home, Allen led her to a "dim, closet-like attic" and "then he sexually assaulted me." Farrow didn't specify Allen's actions, but described other abusive behavior.

Farrow said Allen would have her get in bed with him, and at other times "place his head in my naked lap and breathe in and breathe out."

"For as long as I could remember, my father had been doing things to me that I didn't like," said Farrow. "These things happened so often, so routinely, so skillfully hidden from a mother that would have protected me had she known, that I thought it was normal."

Allen was investigated on child molestation claims for the alleged 1992 incident in Connecticut, but prosecutors elected not to charge him.

The handling of the investigation was criticized after Litchfield County state attorney Frank S. Maco said in a press conference there was "probable cause" to charge Allen, although he chose not to. A disciplinary panel found that Maco may have prejudiced the then-ongoing custody battle between Allen and Mia Farrow by making an accusation without formal charges.

The 1992 allegation came shortly after Allen became involved with Mia Farrow's adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn. Allen, then in his mid-50s, was not the adoptive father of Previn, who was about 19 at the time. The two married in 1997 and have two adopted daughters.

Though many fans never forgave Allen for his romance with Previn, the director's career was largely uninterrupted. He has continued to release a new film almost every year, with his latest, "Blue Jasmine," earning three Academy Award nominations, including a screenwriting nomination for Allen.

Dylan Farrow's open-letter was precipitated by Allen being honored at the Golden Globes with the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award. Allen didn't attend as he largely abstains from awards shows. But during the telecast's tribute, Ronan Farrow tweeted: "Missed the Woody Allen tribute - did they put the part where a woman publicly confirmed he molested her at age 7 before or after Annie Hall?"

Ronan Farrow is the lone biological child of Allen and Mia Farrow, though Farrow has said her former husband Frank Sinatra could be his father. Ronan Farrow is estranged from Allen.

A rebuke followed last week when Robert Weide, director of the PBS "American Masters" documentary on Allen, argued in a lengthy account on the Daily Beast that many were unaware of the facts of Allen's relationship with Previn and that the incident with Dylan Farrow was unproven.

Dylan Farrow, who said she now lives happily married in Florida under another name, urged people not to forget her side of the story and lamented "a world that celebrates her tormenter."

I know of a young girl now a woman who was mollested multiple of times, in Foster homes, Never told her parents because they would feel responsible.. One mollester has died, another near death, who to tell, a kept secret, and no one pays, doesn't mean it didn't happen. The girl I am sure is being truthful and for her own reasons did not come out sooner. Sometimes its a relief just to talk about it, why should she be punished and told to keep quiet.. There is more girls out there and boys who have not spoken up, and as for the dates or when, its hard for a young child to remember the unimportant things. The deed is what is what you cannot forget.

Hollywood doesn't usually celebrate a director's personal life. They celebrate their body of work. And it has nothing to do with whether he molested this girl or not. I don't think Mia Farrow is the innocent woman she would like people to think. I think she was more concerned that Allen left her for her adopted daughter. Not that either of these girls had in any way been molested or hurt. She was a selfish woman, just as Allen is a selfish man. Did he molest Dylan, I don't know. But considering Allen's track record and Mia's record, I would say that Dylan is the most likely to be telling the truth. Why bring it up again after all these years when the statute of limitations are in effect if it were not true?

The prosecutor in this matter declined to go forward. Prosecutors will go forward on flimsy evidence as we have learned via so many people who have later been found innocent.

Mia Farrow was furious upon learning of Allen's involvement with her [NOT HIS] adopted daughter. I think she has used parental alienation as her revenge. Dylan may honestly believe such things happened but that is not proof that they did.

Based on the comments I have read on here, I would hate to find myself in front of an American jury. They are too ready to convict on hearsay.

The FACTS overwhelmingly support the fact that Woody Allen NEVER molested this girl….Mia Farrow is delusional…and brainwashed her children. Soon Yi is NOT Allens daughter and never was…Allen never even lived in the same house with Soon Yi and Farrow…. Farrow has used the media to malign Allen because she is a bitter woman scorned…..She was never even married to Allen…look up the facts before you judge Allen

@johnkristich, The FACT that Allen married a barely passed underage girl who he helped raise made him a dirty old sleazy bag.

So, by your reasoning, it's okay to take nude photos of, and have an affair with the underage daughter of your girlfriend as long as you didn't live in the same house and didn't legally adopt her?

The whole thing with daughter Soon Yi speaks volumes. What do people need ...a video of the attacks and a witty comfession? The whole Soon Yi thing pretty much says it all. I like the guys past work as much as anyone, but the guy is a child molesting pervert and should have been put in prison for it years ago. As to Hollywood's take on all this? The whole industry is run by ultra-liberal freaks and perverts with rare exceptions here and there.

I might had agreed with you if you hadn't used the word "LIBERAL" when even a few ugly republicans also run in the Hollywood crowd... "JEWS" mostly!!

Why is it a surprise that hollywood would want to honor shuch a sleaze as Woody Allen? They gave an Oscar to a child rapist, Roman Polanski.

Honestly, I think he probably did molest his daughter. He kind of already did when he married his wife's adopted daughter. Although it's creepy it was legal. However, if you could convict someone for molestation when you were 7 then everyone could say anyone molested them and have just about anyone put away. There's no way to prove this and therefor he cannot and shouldn't be convicted of something that has no evidence or proof. That's why we have a legal system and the term justice for all in our country. That's why the US is unlike other countries that try and convict people without any evidence at all. You can say anything, you can fabricate anything, but you have to have proof or, we are simply in the Salem Witch Trials all over again. This happens to too many people as it is. People even put to death who weren't even in the same state as the murder when it occurred. How about the kids that say their parents or grandparents molested them, serving 20+ years in jail , to have them as adults confess that they made it up so they didn't have to do their homework. Ya, I do think he probably did it, but it's just as much a crime to label someone a molester when it's one word against another. He's a pretty creepy guy though, Karma has a way of serving it's own justice.

Guess what? About that evidence. . . none of the Cathoic Priests who allegedly molested young boys was ever convicted WITH evidence. It was all here say and innuendo. NOt ONE physical injury, not a drop of blood anywhere, not a pediatrician's examination, not a Mother's specific claim that a son was "touched in a specific physical location." How's that for the rule of law in the country? None of the victim-witnesses could even decribe the exact dates when the abuse supposedly happened or where exactly they were "touched." One Priest was sent to jail for life - the only proof that he molested a young boy was him being seen boosting an obese boy up a swimming pool ladder - and for that the Priest was brutally murdered in prison.
