Police have confirmed two people were shot in an apartment complex near Michigan State University Friday night.

Police say one is in critical condition. The other was treated at the hospital and released, according to WAVY.

MSU police notified students about the shooting via text message and Twitter Friday night. The tweet also gave a description of the suspected gunman, who authorities say is still at large.

WOOD reports officials say they don't believe the shooting was random, and they are continuing their investigation into the incident.

Some Michigan State University students who live nearby told WLNS they heard arguing coming from the apartment before the incident, but they couldn't say who was involved.

According to WBZ-TV, the shooting hasn't affected any activity on MSU's campus, even though it took place less than a mile away from the university.

Police told reporters early Saturday morning there was no further information on the case to release at the time.
