Heroin Laced With Fentanyl Blamed For 22 Deaths In PA

Heroin Laced With Fentanyl Blamed For 22 Deaths In PA
Authorities in Pennsylvania believe at least 22 people are dead from exposure to a lethal drug cocktail of heroin and the cancer painkiller fentanyl.

"Fentanyl is 100 times more powerful than morphine. One man told us he almost died when he tried it."
"I slowly, slowly lost consciousness and was overdosing in front of my girlfriend." (Via WPXI)

On the streets, it's known as "Theraflu," and officials have asked hospitals to be on the lookout for more overdoses. They are worried the powerful drug could spread to other parts of the state. (Via WPVI)

"17 people died just last week. Folks who know anything are being asked to step up and report the problem before more deaths occur." (Via WTAE)

The CDC reports it comes in crystals or crystalline powder. Fentanyl is an opioid that alleviates pain without the loss of consciousness. It's estimated to be 80 times as potent as morphine and 100 times more potent than heroin.

The problem isn't new to the area. Last year, at least 50 people in Pennsylvania died from the same lethal mix. The state even issued a fentanyl warning last summer. (Via Metro)

CNN quotes Dr. Karl Williams, chief medical examiner in Pennsylvania's Allegheny County, which saw 15 overdoses in the past week. He says,

"This is not accidental. Somebody is deliberately trying to make a big batch of fentanyl. It is not an extraordinarily complex molecule to synthesize, and you can find instructions on the Internet. It does not take a sophisticated chemist to do this."

Police in Pennsylvania say they are teaming up, doing everything they can to get the drug off the street.

I've been on Fentanyl 100 Patches for several years now for chronic pain from a broke Back in 2004, People don't believe me when I tell them that Just one of my Patches would kill them in a matter of hours. If Fentanyl is being laced in with Heroin, then yes it is probably one of the most dangerous drugs out there, and yes you will lose your life if you do this drug.

Now THIS is a poorly written "news" article. It appears from reading the article that there hasn't been any accidental contamination of a cancer drug, which the headline tries to infer (they wanted us to read about it).

Unfortunately, the "report" doesn't really add clarity. It appears the report is about a "street drug". Is the drug someone's attempt to make Fentanyl on their own, or is it someone taking Fentanyl and adding heroin to it?

Do the users understand they are buying a hot shot, or do they think they are getting pure Fentanyl or their normal heroin dose? I'm guessing they think it is fentanyl and heroin mixed since heroin usually has to be "cooked" by the addict before use. I'm guessing the fentanyl is already liquid, so the fentanyl/heroin mix must be liquid? Right?

If the article were properly researched and written, I wouldn't have to be guessing.

Oklahoma and other states are being sued by fire chasing lawyers and special interest groups against Capital Punishment. They claim that current lethal drugs used for executions cause pain and make the convicts uncomfortable. in addition, drug Manufacturers won't make your lethal cocktail for executions because of bad publicity and threats of being outed and demonized. Drug users have come to your rescue. Start using a lethal dose of Heroin and fentanyl, to execute convicted killers, scheduled for execution. Their deaths will be on time, quick, painless and maybe they will even die with a smile on their faces.
The prison Corrections Departments can probably get free Heroin from local police drug busts. A win -win situation for sure.

the headline made it sound like someone was poisoning people with cancer by lacing their meds with heroin, but instead you have human malfunctions mixing to very dangerous drugs and taking them willingly, sad.

And Obama who claimed that he was in a "daze" his last two years in High School. And admitted to doing cocaine. And proclaimed that he did drugs "enthusiastically". So all you followers of the Communist in the White House can say drugs are OK. Hey go make some Fentanyl and you will die but fortunately for mankind you will reduce the "*******" gene pool.
