'Today' names Des Moines the wealthiest American city

'TODAY' Names Des Moines Wealthiest American City

If you're looking to relocate somewhere new, you might want to listen up. 'Today' featured America's wealthiest city, and it's one you might not expect.

Yup, not Manhattan, Miami, or even Silicon Valley. It's Des Moines, Iowa.

In the past, the capital of Iowa has been declared the best place for business and careers by Forbes.
Kiplinger also called it the best city for families.

Back in 2011, U.S. News & World Report ranked Des Moines No. 1 among the richest metro areas. The capital of Iowa has the highest median income in the nation relative to the cost of living.

KCCI points out that the definition of rich depends on one's perspective.

Still, residents tell "Today' that living in a Midwestern city of only half a million people, is, well, priceless.

'Today' also reports that the cost of living in Des Moines is actually 10 percent lower than the national average.

If you like working for $10 and hour for a temp agency and no benefits then Des Moines is the place for you. If you like dismal, dreary, freezing rain, snow, and being blown to pieces by 80 mph winds, then you'll really like it here.
Des Moines is a shithole, make no mistake about it. Unfortunately, I know all too well.

Well, it sounds like the place I would want to live and plan on frozen @$$ cold winters, blistering summers, and hoping to not be blown away by tornadoes. Other than that, it should be just fine.

Well can't argue about the weather.... I live here and hate the cold and heat but having been a Des Moines-er all my life, I have yet to see a tornado.

When it gets to 106 degrees with 90% humidity and stays that way for two weeks — that is a blistering summer.

Did anyone even read the article. It doesn't say anything about being the best place to live only that it is the richest metro area and a good place to raise a family. Why is everyone so bitter? I don't live there but have been there ,to be honest it's to big for me , but a fun place to visit. GET OVER YOUSELVES and move on!

Des Moines is a very nice town, a little cold in the winter but pretty mild in the summer, a very clean city, with a good dog track and casino.

Des Moines is full of litter because of the poor laws they have against littering. It is a filthy, disgusting city.

You need to get some help. Your misdirected anger [and ignorance] is a much worse reflection of you than our president.
