Staff sergeant returns home, surprises daughter

Kentucky Soldier Returns from Afghanistan, Surprises Young Daughter

Christmas came a month late for a Hardin County, Ky., first grader whose father has been in Afghanistan for the past nine months.

The first graders thought that WLKY was bringing their cameras in to see how polite the students were ... but they were really there for one little girl in particular.

Quietly sitting at lunch, Lindsey Owens, 6, had no idea that her dad was about to surprise her.

Staff sergeant Jon Owens has been in Afghanistan for the past nine months, but he's finally home to give his little 'daddy's girl' a hug.

The surprise was so overwhelming that Lindsey, who didn't know how to react at first, eventually started to cry. Owens, for his part, couldn't believe how mature she looked.

Lindsey got to go home early to spend the rest of the day with her dad. Owens could be deployed in the future, so the family is going to treasure this special time together.

This is a great story. As we all know there is no greater love then the love of a father for his child. May God bless him and his efforts to make America a better nation by serveing in our Armed forces fighting the evil doers.

The real story is that too many are coming home maimed or coming home in a bag. End these insane wars. It's not about "freedom" ! It's about profit, power and control. God Bless America or what is left of it.

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is The Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Happens every day. Every single day. Very cool attention grab but not newsworthy. Wouldn't you want to surprise your child AT HOME instead of making a newsgrab show?

Perhaps you have forgotten when America was attacked by those monsters on 9-11. America needs to go out and get these bad guys, these evil doers every chance we get to make America safe. Human vermins like that only spread if not delt with. God bless America. And God bless that brave Dad and his child.

Yes, someone serving this country overseas, whether in a combat zone or not, returns home everyday. Where he or she decides to reunite with family is his or her choice to make and beyond the criticism of anyone else. What these news segments and stories tell the rest of us is that it is still happening, which we would not be mindful of if we didn't see or read the reports. In and of itself, rarely does such a return warrant special news coverage; but, as a commentary upon the fact that too many of our citizen-soldiers are still in harm's way it is necessary for our continued awareness that we are still at war. May the day that the last of them return home soon come.

I think ranm856 better hurry and get off mommy and daddy's computer before they come home and catch him. He must be under 14 years old and spoiled rotten or he wouldn't diss the very people who keep him safe.

Rich old men start wars for young soldiers to perish. Their families severed and children suffering from this tragic arrangement. Fight for peace! War is overrated.

You must or you wouldn't have taken the time to make a moronic statement. It must have taken all your brain power to come up with it.
