Dolphins Steal Show At Surfing Competition

Surfers are pretty amazing to watch, but unexpected guests stole the show at a surfing competition in Santa Barbara over the weekend.

While surfers did their thing, a pod of dolphins rode the waves with them. They had the crowd in the palm of their ... uh, flippers.

You can hear their amazement in this video uploaded to YouTube. 'Here we go. They are right there waiting. There they go. Woah! Look at that! Oh man!'

There were about a dozen dolphins hanging ten. KGO-TV reports it's very rare to see dolphins - especially this many dolphins - joining in with the surfers. Talk about a sight to see.

I saw a herd of dolphins round up schools of fish, drive the fish to a cove, then started feasting.
They did this over and over. Then when a train came they were all jumping out of the water to see what was making all the noise. This was just north of Ventura, and 20 miles south of this story. Which was at mussel shoals.

Dolphins are incredible, Let's hope Japan can stop the Fukushima leak then find a way to clean the sea.

It's not unusual to see pods of dolphins around here, ventura county, CA. I see them often when kayaking off the beach. They actually come up and bumped the kayak. If you're quite and still (they still know you're there), I've had them breach (jump out of the water) close by. Actually, they love ANY kind of pressure wave, beach surf, ships bow waves out at sea.
Seals are curious too!

KGO-TV reports its rare to see dolphins joining in...? If KGO-TV actually surfed they'd know it happens often. Dolphins are always out there riding waves with surfers along the California coast lines, Santa Barbara included.

Ohhh Nooo! Amazing...That was a mile from my house and we couldn't get a parking space because Rincon Classic planners didnt plan for shuttle buses from Carpinteria...and higway patrol was busy writing tickets for people who had to park on the freeway offramp. Next year, I'll walk!
