Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

ATLANTA (AP) -- The nation will pause to remember Martin Luther King Jr. with parades, marches and service projects.

King was born Jan. 15, 1929, and the federal holiday is the third Monday in January. In Atlanta, a service will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, where King was pastor. In Memphis, Tenn., where King was assassinated, an audio recording of an interview with King will be played at the National Civil Rights Museum. The recording sheds new light on a phone call President John F. Kennedy made to King's wife more than 50 years ago.

Historians generally agree Kennedy's phone call to Coretta Scott King expressing concern over her husband's arrest in October 1960 - and Robert Kennedy's work behind the scenes to get King released - helped JFK win the White House.

I Thank God for Rev. Martin Luther King, he truly was a "God Sent" man, he was our Black Moses!! The Bible says there is no greater love than to lay down your life and die for your fellow man!! We should also give Thanks to his family for enduring his absence's from their everyday family life, especially the late Mrs Coretta Scott King and his children. Because she was truly the "strong Black woman" behind this great Black Man!!

Austin yellow dog democrats still refer to MLK Day as,"Old 19th Street Day", in private. Want proof ? Just read the state historical plaque on the Austin American Statesman " newspaper" building; ...'founded in 1871...as the Democrat Statesman...to stop reconstruction', or words to that effect.

DIED fighting to eliminate slavery.
Where are their descendants ?
What about their rights ?
Am I crying alone ?

Actually , 98% of Confederate soldiers did not own slaves. They were fighting for states rights, and considered the Civil War to be a 2nd War of Independence. The real irony is that 10 years later , due to technological inovation, slavery would have ended all on its own, because a machine would have been able to do the work of 100 field hands.

You are not understanding what they are saying. The North lost those trying to stop slavery. Martin Luther King Jr was a Republican. He would be appalled at the way the Blacks of todays are acting out and the number of them taking handouts. By the way, Democrats use handouts to enslave people by making them dependent on them and then threatening to cut them if you don't vote Democrat.
Below is history 101
Democrats fought to expand slavery while Republicans fought to end it.
Democrats passed those discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws.
Democrats supported and passed the Missouri Compromise to protect slavery.
Democrats supported and passed the Kansas Nebraska Act to expand slavery.
Democrats supported and backed the Dred Scott Decision.
Democrats opposed educating blacks and murdered their teachers.(many of whom were white)
Democrats fought against anti-lynching laws.(because they like to string them up)
Democrat Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia, is well known for having been a “Kleagle” in the Ku Klux Klan.
Democrat Senator Robert Byrd of West Virginia, personally filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for 14 straight hours to keep it from passage.
To those boo hooing about this, grow up. All these holidays, like Presidents Day, are only an extended weekend passed by Congress for themselves. Those that have been around a long time know this. Before it was on the day that the Presidents or King were born.

In fact MLK was not the man most blacks or liberals claim he was..A devout registered republican commited to fairness and eqaulity for the negro race not handouts ..and yes that is his race...but a republican not democrat comes as quite a shock to some...

It's well recognized that without government intervention the black race would still be as it was 150 years ago. The average black hater says and does what ever he can to keep a thumb on the black race.

I don't think his flaws as a human being is important. If that's the case then no one would be worthy to be honored. King David was an adulterer, Noah was a drunkard, Rahab was a prostitute but they all were used by God. The stereo-types about blacks or any other race needs to stop. If we personalize our neighbor we could do more to help no other.

Unfortunately its as though other ethnic groups have lived into the King legacy moreso than the blacks. What ever happened to an idea of acceptance based upon Kings content character as opposed to color of skin. Blacks seem follow to enjoy the dictates of Sharpton and Jackson perpetuating division in the races with so much hatred toward every ethnic group. The cities, streets, justice system, federal and state programs have all been tainted and corrupted by the use of the term of 'Racism' which has become more of a slogan for abuse than to remedy injustice and more of stepping stone for gaining the upper hand as oposed to working with others. . Still 89% of violent crimes are committed by blacks. Daily newspapers and new documentaries tell of black on black crimes. Neighborhoods have become combat zone. Rap Music has become an immoral venture to test the decency of the art. Vulgarity, intimiation has become a norm. I just don't believe MLK would be proud of the missed opportunities offered by society and which have been abused, tainted and corrupted by a race which has no incentive to move away from he past nor into a future toward equality.

The American Indians fought to be free of such slavery issues! The slaves, did not unite to fight against the Slavers, The Jews in Germany didn't unite to fight against the Nazi movement! and the American Indian is no different now than the Palistine's in Gaza! America has come nowhere in over 300 years! First thing the Slaves did after being freed was join forces with the American Government and help conquer the Indians! so much for their civil rights as far As This 7/8th. Sioux Indian that served this Government Honorably! I feel that The America as we have known it has been overthrown by the World Order to have one ruling country for the world! back to square one America.
