Chicago Woman Falls To Her Death While Posing For Picture

25-year-old Chicago woman Anna Bachman, who was visiting her family in San Diego over the weekend, fell to her death while posing for a picture on Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach Sunday.

Her sister reportedly witnessed her take one step too many and disappear over the edge down a 40- to 50-foot drop.

A witness told Chicago's WLS several people rushed over to help but were unable to revive her.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lt. Paul Phillips with the San Diego Police Department told KPIX, "There were two nurses here that hussled down the cliff and began CPR and first aid, as well as a couple of surfers is my understanding. They did their best but it just wasn't meant to be."

Local media reported the area where Bachman fell isn't roped off, but is marked with several warning signs of unstable cliffs.

Police have ruled her death as an accident and do not believe alcohol was a factor.

It is one thing to pick on posters for bad grammar and spelling. I do admit to sometimes doing that, as well as making mistakes on occasion. However, the level of professionalism in Journalism today is next to nothing. I expect a writer to use spell check, at the very least.

I agree......there are too many critics in the world, and seemingly not enough sympathetic people. This poor young lady lost her life far too young. I'm sure she didn't decide to simply step off the edge at 25 yrs old. Not to mention the anguish & pain her family is left to endure. It's nice to read kind, sympathetic comments.....rather than sarcastic, mean critisism. Have a great day.

So very sad - I am so sorry for this woman and her sister. How can people avoid having such mishaps?

The same thing happened to producer Paul Stojanovich in Oregon nearly 11 years ago. Apparently, this doesn't only happen in the cartoons.

How many of us have been careless and got away with it? Going too far into a rough ocean or running an amber light? This young woman was not familiar with this spot, put her guard down, and paid with her life. Very sad.

"There are a lot of ways to wind up dead. The fact that we survive at all is a miracle. For every day that we live, we face: 1,000 Ways to Die."

Anna Bachman was seeking a master’s degree in urban planning and policy, she received her undergraduate degree from the University of California Berkeley.

Bachman also was an intern at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago, and before that had worked for Habitat for Humanity East Bay for about three years, her father said.

She had hoped to get hired at the bank and was interested in working on urban housing developments for the underprivileged, he said.

Bachman wished to be an organ donor, and the family arranged for that Monday, her father said.

So what have all of you with the mean comments done for the world, this woman has probably done more in her short life than the rest of you in your long lives.

I have also posted regarding insensitive comments. I apologize for the ignorance of some of these people on behalf of the majority of us who are saddened by this tragedy. By your post, it is evident that you know her or of her. She sounds like she was a real asset to this world and had a heart for people. If she was a Christian, the moment she closed her eyes here, she opened them in Heaven. I pray that all who are personally affected by this temporary separation from her will find comfort and peace in the knowledge that they will be with her again for eternity if Jesus is their Savior as well.

Liberals tend to be very selective about which lives they value. Conservatives tend to value them all.
I'm tired of hearing eulogies that say the more liberal a person was, the better a person was.
While some of the comments are unnecessarily crass, there is something to be remembered that can be helpful to us all, and make her death be less in vain. People who believe the warning signs don't apply to them may find that gravity certainly does. Take personal responsibility for your actions. Don't count on the government to have made everything perfectly safe. And, don't count on 911 getting there in time to save the day.

I lived in Ocean Beach for nine years and know the cliffs well. It is very picturesque and frequented by tourists. This is a sad sad happening and my condolences go out to the family.
