Chicago woman falls to her death while posing for picture

Chicago Woman Falls To Her Death While Posing For Picture

25-year-old Chicago woman Anna Bachman, who was visiting her family in San Diego over the weekend, fell to her death while posing for a picture on Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach Sunday.

Her sister reportedly witnessed her take one step too many and disappear over the edge down a 40- to 50-foot drop.

A witness told Chicago's WLS several people rushed over to help but were unable to revive her.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lt. Paul Phillips with the San Diego Police Department told KPIX, "There were two nurses here that hussled down the cliff and began CPR and first aid, as well as a couple of surfers is my understanding. They did their best but it just wasn't meant to be."

Local media reported the area where Bachman fell isn't roped off, but is marked with several warning signs of unstable cliffs.

Police have ruled her death as an accident and do not believe alcohol was a factor.

The picture taker should have saw she was in danger. I'm so upset with whoever took that picture.

Life happens, We can not have crossing guards at every crosswalk. You can not foresee or stop every accident in life. To blame her family is wrong. People take risks all the time. Life has risks. Some seem to be taken when it in hind sight was not worth it. But it was a risk and not a certainty. I do not think they thought it would happen.

you think that if her sister, the person taking the picture, had noticed in enough time, she wouldnt have tried to prevent her sister from falling to her death? Cmon now, get it together. If you've ever taken a picture before, you would know that your eyes are focused in a narrow frame of space. Her vision and sight was compromised, and she didnt realize the danger until too late. Its always annoying when people who werent present in a tragic situation, want to go ahead and pile on and point fingers. You dont think this woman feels bad enough that she was a party to her sister's brutal death?

Shouldn't it be roped off if it's a popular photo spot??

What happens when someone sits on the rope or crosses over the rope? We can not childproof the entire world.

That is a bad mistake to stand on any edge or cliff.

You really have to be pretty stupid to stand that close to the edge of a high cliff and for any reason without a harness. I realize that some people do not have a fear of heights, but of those who do it's for a reason.

This is very sad, and my thoughts and prayers go out to her family. There are many cliffs in San Diego (not just in O.B., but I am thinking of the ones in La Jolla over the caves, the cliffs over Blacks Beach that the hang gliders take off of also). Folks need to be very careful when getting anywhere near them. Stay back, no picture is worth injury or death. Again, I am sorry for this tragic loss. -RJ

Been there 100-times surfing. It's actually not that bad as San Diego Beach Cliffs go. This was an unfortunate accident...nothing more.

But, to be safe we better register all cliffs with their local sheriff's departments, make cliff ownership illegal, and tax owners of any steep incline.
