Pope says abortion evidence of 'throwaway culture'

Vatican Pope Epiphany
VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope Francis has criticized abortion as evidence of a "throwaway culture" that wastes people as well as food.

In Monday's annual speech on world crises, Francis cited abortion and said: "Unfortunately what is thrown away is not only food and dispensable objects but often human beings themselves, who are discarded as unnecessary."

Francis also urged better respect for migrants and denounced the persecution of Christians in Asia, Africa and the Middle East in his address to diplomats accredited to the Holy See.

The pope said Italy should do more for migrants and generously "take in the weakest and most vulnerable." Each year, thousands attempt risky voyages across the Mediterranean in unseaworthy boats heading toward Italy and other European Union nations, and hundreds die en route.

If you don't want women to abort then teach your teenage kids how to use a condom properly. Neither church or government should have a say about what a woman can do with her body.

Or teach your teenage daughter to keep her legs closed. Otherwise, she's going to be a mommy.

This Pope could get me back to the Catholic Church if I were so inclined :)

I like this Pope. He teaches what a christian is all about. He has worked among the least among us and values them. No accident he took the name of Francis (of Assisi) who also worked among the poor.

In all the media messages and in your negative comments for Pope Francis; only his message ALWAYS HAS love at its base. Agressive atheism is the greatest human threat because the LOVE is left out every time.

He makes a good point, however, statistics just came out that more people are actually against abortion now than they were in the past. While only by 5%, it's still progress.

Dear Pope, Until your church reverses its position on artificial birth control, you have no moral standing to speak on the issue of abortion.

I don't know about not having moral standing, but i certainly agree with you about birth control. It's completely hypocritical and impossible for Catholics to have a child every year. Children should be loved and that means the proper number in a family.

Yes, this 'pope' doesn't want to lose any potential abuse victims. He certainly does take in the weakest and most vulnerable.....all those little boys.

That's a little snide. Don't blame him for the neglect of other Popes.

It must be hard to go through life with nothing but glaring hatred for everyone. How sad for you.

We have a Pope who truely embraces and practises the teachings of Jesus Christ Love God above allthings and Love your neighbor as yourself. Anyone who does thjese two fundamental concepts of Christ's teaching is a Christian no matter what religion he follows. I love this Pope, he is truely a leader for our time. Immigation is a difficult question because it has many issues and need to be addressed in a respectful manner without compromising the security and well being of the citizens of the country. I hope the world leaders take note of this Christian.

I am apauled with the way our Country is being destroyed with all these abortions, children having access to POT & our so called President dosen't seem to care one bit. This same sex marrige is the wose travisty that our country is thinking, is ok. Where is it ok? Children now are asking why are two men are Mommy & Daddy? & the same for women, & and is furthering the utter destruction of our country, which I was always proud to say, was my home, & now I'm ashamed of what is happening to all of us. We don't even have a say so either. Well I will NEVER accept it no matter what, because it is a SIN and always will be even when theese lawless peolpe say it's right. We need someone with real president sencibility & actually cares about this country, because he clearly dosen't. The children are running rampid & lawlessly controling this country with the President. Everybody is laughing at us, including all the other countries. They see him taking vacations to hawwii & celebrating his wifes birthday & expect the people of the United States to pay for this, but he is always boasting ever since he came into his Presidentcy & he is still letting everyone that he dosen't have to worry about money, because he's a millionair & can afford it, but is seeing that he's actualy using his own money, so who's doing all the paying of all his vacations. Plus he's going to run us into the ground. No desent president would allow these things to happen. Presidents have been inpeached for less, he can & does worse, it's sinfull, how can we stop these things from happening ? & save our United States & get it back to a real life again? Most of all, we need to save our children, PLEASE!

When we are not in touch with our own vulnerable parts, we do not see or respect the poor and vulnerable in others.
