Fidel Castro makes 1st public appearance in 9 months

HAVANA (AP) - Former President Fidel Castro made his first public appearance in nine months, attending the opening of an art studio in the Cuban capital.

Official newspapers and websites on Thursday carried a photo showing a seated, gray-haired Castro from behind, pointing at a work of art while artist Alexis Leyva leans in to talk to him at the Wednesday night event. Cuban state television also broadcast video of the encounter on the afternoon news.

Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia published three other pictures on its website that showed Castro's face. Wearing a black jacket and green scarf on a cool Havana evening, Castro reaches out to touch a sculpture in one of the images.

Castro last appeared in public on April 9, 2013, when he attended the inauguration of Havana school.

In December he met privately with visiting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, a key ally of Cuba.

Castro, 87, led Cuba for 48 years before falling gravely ill in July 2006 and handing over power to his brother Raul, who formally became president in January 2008.

I didn't have anything good to say about Castro when he was younger and in power, and I still don't have anything good to say about him now that he is an old man. I still remember the pictures of young men lined up and shot when he seized control, and the thousands imprisoned and executed by his henchmen. He promised his people freedom, and instead he delivered an authoritarian dictatorial government that allowed no disagreement with it's policy. The heaven he promised cuba became a hell, that is proven by the thousands who would rather risk death in overcroweded boats headed to the Bahamas or Florida, than to continue to live under his oppression.

FIRST OF ALL....THIS MAN IS NOT A "PRESIDENT". HE IS A COMMUNIST DICTATOR WHO HAS KILLED MORE PEOPLE THAN WE KNOW. I FOR ONE, KNOW FOR A FACT THAT HE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATH OF MY BROTHER WHO WAS JUST 18 MONTHS OLD (WE WEREN'T PROVIDED MEDICINES BECAUSE IT WAS 1958 AND CASTRO WAS JUST TAKING OVER THE ISLAND). ALSO FOR MY GRANDMOTHER'S DEATH( OF A BROKEN HEART IM SURE) WHEN MY FAMILY HAD TO LEAVE CUBA AND LEAVE THE EXTENDED FAMILY BEHIND. WE WERE STARVING BECAUSE CASTRO WOULD NOT GIVE MY FAMILY FOOD WHEN MY PARENTS REFUSED TO CARRY GUNS AND BE PART OF HIS REGIME. HE DESERVES TO GO TO HELL ALONG WITH HITLER AND ALL THOSE DEMONS. ITS FUNNY HOW HE IS STILL HANGING ON LIKE THE BAD WEED THAT HE IS. YOU CAN'T GET RID OF THAT BEAST!!!

Fidel Castro won't live forever, and neither will his brother, Raul. There will be another revolution in Cuba and it will quickly become a democracy.

87,Wer'e all going to be there some day. But now, It"s time for him to die. When he dies, look for Jimmy Carter and Obama to be right there at his grandeous funeral. Good riddance.
