Official: Mozambique plane crash intentional

MAPUTO, Mozambique (AP) - Preliminary investigations into a November plane crash that killed 33 people aboard show that the pilot intentionally brought the Mozambican plane down, an aviation official said.

The Mozambican Airlines plane was bound for Angola with six crewmembers and 27 passengers, including 10 Mozambican, nine Angolans, five Portuguese, and one citizen each from France, Brazil and China, according to the airline. The aircraft went down Nov. 29 in a Namibian national park near the border with Angola.

"There was an intention to crash the plane," Joao Abreu, chairman of the Mozambican Civil Aviation Institute said Saturday after gathering recordings and preliminary investigations.

The pilot's motives are unknown, and investigations will continue, he said, naming the pilot as Herminio dos Santos Fernandes. The co-pilot was in the bathroom at the time, he said.

Radar data showed that, at an obligatory reporting position over northern Botswana, the plane suddenly started to slow downwards rapidly. The plane's movements were normal before that, with no mechanical functions, he said. The altitude selector was then manually altered three times, bringing the plane's altitude down from 38,000 feet to 592 feet, Abreu said, reading the preliminary report to reporters.

Low and high intensity alarm signals can be heard on recovered recordings from the plane, along with the sounds of repeated banging on the cockpit door, he said. The investigation report does not say who was banging, but Abreu asserted that the co-pilot was not in the cockpit at the time of the crash and not responsible for the crash. The "black box" flight recorders were recovered intact and sent to the United States National Transport Safety Board in Washington to be decoded and transcribed.

Other indicators show manual operations were used, he said, adding that "all these operations required detailed knowledge of the plane's controls, and showed a clear intention to crash the aircraft."

The control tower had lost voice and radar contact and set search operations in motion. The wreckage of the plane was found in the following days.

These type of psychopaths should be eliminated like a cockroach. They have no meaning in our world!

The day is coming when they will be. When Jesus Christ returns, all will be exposed for who they are and will receive their just reward or punishment. And it will be final.

With another invitation into a open cockpit? I don't fly but I thought someone who told me who does fly said they still don't have a sign by the cockpit doors as authorized personal only. 9/11, Biz and Gov let down a nation for a few 1,000 dollars to keep those doors secure. Then I thought that was a great Ideal after put a camera so they could see the terrorist grab people and kill them to get them to open the cockpit door. Do need were if something happens the crew can cut back on the oxygen and make everybody fall to sleep back there. And of course if you got a perb crew then they can do that and fondle the passengers on those long tedious flights when they get bored. Answers a plenty and problems a plenty. The World of the Lord.

Your thought processes seem skewed and not very lucid. ...
One thought did stand out though which was the bit about the Oxygen. Reducing the oxygen level at altitude wouldn't put them to sleep. It would kill them, and freeze them..This happened a few years ago in a 737 in Greece where the crew didn't notice the cabin air pressure monitor stopped working. The pax and crew were suffocated, then actually frozen after several hours flying on autopilot until they ran out of fuel at over 30,000 feet with only outside air pressure in the cabin according to first responders who arrived very quickly. Passengers get oxygen trom the compressed air at altitude. The compression comes from the compressor a the jet engine, some of which is siphoned off,,filtered and heated, then fed into the cabin to bring the air pressure up to about the same as if the aircraft was at 8000 feet. Oh, and there is no A/C on airliners. Cooling and heating on the ground is provided by those tubes from the terminal area that workers attach to the plane if need be.

This is so sad.
Don't the airlines check who, and what these pilots are?
To intentionally crash a plane is just plain "SICK".

Especially in the USA, because when one of these sicko's who don't kill themselves along with the innocent people they kill, all they get is life in prison or the death penalty which takes way too long to carry out. As soon as they are found guilty execute them on national TV for the rest of the sicko's to see, it may deter them from trying the same crap.

If you want to kill yourself that's one thing, but why kill a bunch of innocent people?

rktec's statement is one of the few intelligent comments posted here. The Egypt Airline plane was deliberately taken down in the Atlantic 14 years ago by the Muslim Brotherhood pilot who wanted to kill all the Egyptian Army officers onboard who had been in America for military training with our forces. There are many extremists just like that pilot whose first allegiance is to Islam and they don't all have Muslim names. Remember the American citizen with a Hispanic name who tried to set off a bomb on the street in NYC a few years ago?

That's why I prefer to drive or fly myself, you can never really trust the person behind the wheel to be of sound mind. That poor co-pilot picked a bad time to use the bathroom, he should have held it till they landed and maybe he would have saved the day.

I want to take my girl friend to France and marry her there. I thought I could survive my realistic fear of flying or using any form of transportation if I am not the one operating the mode of transportation. My last venture aboard a bus to New Web York from Baltimore proved to be disastrous. Trusting my life into someone elses hands who can decide whether I will live or die is a monumental choice that I should always keep in the forefront.Pygocentrus

At first I thought of suggesting that you learn to fly. But why should your girlfriend trust you to fly her? So, I think you maybe should work on your trust issues before becoming someone's spouse.

If it makes you feel better, I had the same fears as you, until the day when I had a near fatal heart attack, and was left for dead. We suffer for a while, but then it's over, and life continues. The first words out of your mouth are "Oh Wow! Oh Wow! Oh Wow!."
