Diners win at the city's latest hot spot, Chef Renee Erickson's The Whale Wins, in Fremont, recently listed among the "20 most important restaurants in the nation" by Bon Appetit. Once-sleepy Ballard continues to reinvent itself, with top-notch chefs taking up digs in the brick-fronted buildings along Ballard Avenue, new indie boutiques touting everything from whimsical home décor to handcrafted Italian shoes, and the luxe new Hotel Ballard offering posh rooms at the heart of the district. Meanwhile, the Sunday farmers market, the best in the city, continues to burgeon, drawing shoppers in increasing hordes.
