Antarctica Hit Ridiculously Low Record Cold Temperature

Coldest Ever

WASHINGTON (AP) - Feeling chilly? Here's cold comfort: You could be in East Antarctica which new data says set a record for soul-crushing cold.

Try 135.8 degrees Fahrenheit below zero. Better yet, don't. That's so cold scientists say it hurts to breathe.

A new look at NASA satellite data revealed that Earth set a new record for coldest temperature recorded. It happened in August 2010 when it hit -135.8 degrees. Then on July 31 of this year, it came close again: -135.3 degrees.

The old record had been -128.6 degrees.

Ice scientist Ted Scambos at the National Snow and Ice Data Center said the record low temperature is about 50 degrees colder than anything in Alaska.

Scambos announced the cold facts at the American Geophysical Union scientific meeting in San Francisco Monday.

What is this, a Tea Party rally? Yeah, global warming is a hoax. So was the moon landing. Obama is a Muslim born in Kenya. And 9-11 was an inside job.

Jeez.

And it is all caused by man-made global warming. Must be a big hole in the greenhouse roof.

and the arctic ice cap, which was supposed to shrink to almost nothing, instead, is has grown back considerably and is still growing. Makes you wonder--Earth has gone through severe climate changes, without our help. It has been ice free and much hotter, and nearly frozen over and much colder. Makes you wonder, even if we are contributing to climate change this time around, how negative is that impact? Nature has its own way of turning up the heat and turning down the thermostat--change is the only constant.

Must be due to Global warming. Cold is the absence of heat. The last thing we need on our planet is less heat and more cold. Nothing, grows in the cold.

It must be true (global warming)......the ocean is one inch closer to my house (I live 250 miles from the Gulf Coast). Buy all of the 100 watt A-19 light bulbs you can.....they are slated to be phased out.
