World of Warcraft Movie Cast Announced

Before you go, we thought you'd like these...

Production company Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures have announced the main cast of the upcoming live-action Warcraft film. Ben Foster, Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Toby Kebbell, and Rob Kazinsky are starring in the film and SlashFilm reports that Dominic Cooper is in final negotiations to join them.

Warcraft is helmed by Moon director Duncan Jones, who is also rewriting the original script done by Charles Levitt. According to a presentation at Blizzcon 2013 (via Kotaku), the film was originally set to take place in the same time period as Warcraft and Warcraft II with a focus on the Alliance side of things, but things have changed. Jones is rewriting the script to bring the focus back to both sides: the central conflict will be between the human Anduin Lothar and the orc Durotan.

So what does the cast look like?

Ben Foster has starred in 3:10 to Yuma, Contraband, X-Men: The Last Stand, Alpha Dog, and 30 Days of Night. Foster will probably play Anduin Lothar, although he'll be much younger than the character has classically been portrayed.

Former model Travis Fimmel has been the big breakout lead in the History Channel's Vikings series. The easy parallel here is between Fimmel's character on Vikings, Ragnar Lothbrok, and Durotan, the father of Warcraft mainstay Thrall.

Paula Patton is known for her starring roles in Deja Vu, Precious, and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. I'm guessing she'll play Garona Hellscream, the half-orc, half-draenei assassin who kills the human leader King Llane.
