Passenger Discovered With Suspected Tuberculosis After Flight Departs

PHOENIX (AP) - About 70 passengers on a US Airways Express flight from Texas to Arizona were briefly kept on the plane after it landed, and some say they were told to get tuberculosis tests and vaccinations.

Responders on Saturday boarded the plane in Phoenix and removed a man who was asked to put on a medical mask.

US Airways spokesman Bill McGlahsen says the airline was notified after the plane departed Austin that the passenger's status had been changed to "no-fly" because of an unspecified medical condition.

Federal and Maricopa County health officials said there was no immediate confirmation that the passenger has an infectious disease.

Tuberculosis is a respiratory disease that can be fatal. The Centers for Disease Control says it is spread through the air.

2 phrases that should stick out.
"..unspecified medical condition."
"...no immediate confirmation..."

how was it that they found out that person was possibly a TB carrier during flight?? if the person was aware of the condition, knowing he was a carrier and could spread the disease to others, then he should be held accountable for his action just as people with HIV and knowinly have sex withe others and did not make them aware of the illness then they can be held accountable. both diseases hold a high mortality rate.

We don't know who this TB guy is but I bet he is going to be an illegal alien who sneaked into the country. As you know nobody checks these people to see if they carry infectious diseases.

Anybody who's ever flown through Phoenix knows it's one to the most paranoid airports in the world. But then it's in the middle of about the most politically brain dead state in the nation.

So it's no surprise that they pluck some poor schmuck off an airplane. My guess is they'll find nothing major wrong with the guy. But you won't hear or see anything about that coming across the media wave. Being right is all important!

the problem with your post is the fact the flight came from Texas not Phoenix.

Wouldn't you know it ..... this guy with tuberculosis was from TEXAS. And, all Republicans from Texas are against Obamacare. This TEXAN should of keep his disease in TEXAS where it belonged. But Republican Texas's don't care who they get sick.

"And I imagine he is from a third world county"

That's ignorant. How about you take that statement to your HR department?

She is right.....the TB rate in the USA is high for the most part because of immigrants legal and illegal who come here with the disease and are not exhibiting symptoms when they come in. I'm sure with todays policies they are not denied entry but put on antibiotics. However the newer TB strains are becoming resistant to the usual antibiotics. Her statement is FACT not an issue for HR!!!
