Man Tosses $1,000 Into Mall Of America Crowd

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (AP) -- A 29-year-old Minnesota man who says he was trying to spread holiday cheer by tossing 1,000 dollar bills over an upper floor railing at the Mall of America has been cited for disorderly conduct.

Serge Vorobyov, of Apple Valley, admitted throwing his "last $1,000" from the fourth floor on Friday as a choir performed "Let it Snow." Vorobyov said he also kept tossing cash as he continued down the escalator.

Vorobyov said he's going through a divorce, lost his car hauling business and hoped the positivity of throwing the money would come back to him.

"I wanted to do some sort of pay it forward kind of thing," Vorobyov said Sunday.

He invited his estranged wife to try to win her back but she didn't show up, he said.

Instead, Vorobyov was cited by Bloomington police and released at the scene. He also was ordered not to go into the mall for a year.

Vorobyov had stamped the bills with his YouTube address and on his Facebook page he called the event a publicity stunt. When asked why he wanted the publicity, he said he wanted his cat back from his estranged wife.

Mall of America spokeswoman Sarah Schmidt said it's the first time anyone has ever done something like that in the mall. She said Vorobyov disrupted the performance and could've caused a serious situation.

The idiot that called it in as a disturbance, should be arrested for disrupting a good deed. What happened to common sense and spontaneity. The idiot cops must have had a slow day and needed to cite someone to keep up their quota.

Well you being so quick to call everyone else an idiot haven't looked at the probability that the idiot just may be you. Tossing money into a crowd in this age is only going to cause a mad dash and ensuing panic fed riot with the good guy with a gun ready to be the hero.

Throwing your money away isn't a good deed. It's stupidity. He should go get a JOB and chill.

OMG. Can't anyone see that he was just doing something nice. No matter what the reason behind it. Whether it was $1 or $1k (mind u they haven't mad $1k bills in years) a lil something is better than nothing. It was his money and he can do whatever he wants with it (even though it caused a lil excitement below him). People shouldn't be looking at the reason he said he did it but look at the people it effected. Some don't know his reasoning. All they know is that someone did something nice and I am sure at least one person (if not more) did something nice that day for someone.

What's the big deal? These video newsy zzzz are big lies and distractions. The title leads one to believe that chaos took place at the mall after a man throws money from the top floor of the mall. I always get suckered in to clicking the little "non-story" newsy.

That money probably didn't help anybody because the most anybody was able to grab was a few bucks. He could've done a better deed with it. However, his heart was in the right place.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!!

Baloney. He was hoping that his $1,000 investment would get enough publicity to book him on a few talk shows, maybe get a job offer , maybe get some donations from people who feel sorry for him ... on and on and on. He DID stramp his Youtube address on each bill. ( btw, defacing American currency is a crime. )

And, he succeeded. He got MAJOR free publicity and his plan has probably worked. That's my opinion. Russians are many things .... but they ain't stupid. They understand the American mindset better than we do ourselves.

Typical overreaction from the PC crowd. The guy was desperate. Did he have a gun? No. Did he intentionally (or unintentionally) hurt anyone? Not according to the report.
What can you expect from a state that elected Al Frankenstein?
