Man Clears Airport Security, Boards Flight with Someone Else's Boarding Pass
The security breach happened after an American Airlines employee "entered an incorrect computer key, printed [a boarding pass for a different traveler] and gave it to another passenger by mistake," Philadelphia's FOX 29 reports. The error went unnoticed by TSA agents at the security checkpoint, who should have been verifying that the name on the boarding pass matched the name on the traveler's ID.
American Airlines and TSA only realized the mistake when Brad Gertz went to check in to his flight to Chicago, only to be told by a ticketing agent that "someone with his information was already on a plane to Chicago that took off hours earlier."
"You would think that the person who checks the ID with a ticket would look at the name...not just the destination," Gertz told Fox 29. "The fact that someone got through security as me is completely unacceptable."
