Travelers Named to 2013 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) have recognized The Travelers Companies, Inc. (NYS: TRV) as one of only six insurance companies on its 140-company North America Index. This is the seventh consecutive year that Travelers has been included in the DJSI.

Launched in 1999, the DJSI were the first global indices to track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. The DJSI are maintained collaboratively by the S&P Dow Jones Indices and RobecoSAM. Companies are selected for the indices based on an assessment of their long-term economic, environmental, social and governance practices. Only companies that lead their industries based on this assessment are included in the indices.

"Travelers is honored again to be included as a component of the DJSI," said Brian MacLean, President and Chief Operating Officer of Travelers. "This is a great recognition of our business practices, as well as our commitment to contributing in meaningful ways to the communities in which we live and work."

In 2012, Travelers contributed more than $21 million in community support, primarily to organizations that focus on education, community development, and arts and culture. Through the Travelers Institute, the company's public policy division, Travelers participates in public policy dialogue on matters of interest to the property casualty insurance sector, as well as the financial services industry more broadly.
