We give out billions in assistance in aid to the world, however it is often said that we will not have social security for retirement. A program we had to pay into all our lives. Could someone please tell me why this makes sence?

We give foreign aid because it is necessary as a world power to have influence in a country. Money is the one thing, besides military power, that makes a country a power in this world. Who do you think someone will consider an ally, a person who gives them money or someone who gives them nothing. If you want to be isolated and have no influence in the world, then don't give out foreign aid. Should we not give this aid, I promise China, Russia or some other power will.
