Mississippi's Official Website, ms.gov, Recognized as One of the Top Government Websites by the Center for Digital Government

JACKSON, Miss.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- For the second year in a row Mississippi's official state Web site (www.ms.gov) has been recognized by the Center for Digital Government in their annual Best of Web competition for government portal excellence. The Best of the Web competition annually identifies the most innovative and user-friendly state Web portals and is conducted by the Center for Digital Government, a national research and advisory institute on information technology policies and best practices in state and local government. Sites are judged on delivery of public services, efficiency, economy and functionality for improved citizen access.

"It is an honor to be recognized by the Center for Digital Government for two consecutive years," said Dr. Craig Orgeron, Executive Director of the Department of Information Technology Services. "Our digital government strategy has focused on a portal designed to optimize citizen interaction with government. The Best of Web award validates our on-going efforts, and distinguishes Mississippi as a national leader in mobile and web-based technologies."

The 2013 launch of ms.gov was inspired by the fast growing tablet and smartphone markets of today while utilizing the same cutting edge technology, striking imagery, and modern design that propelled ms.gov forward in 2012. Over the last year mobile visits to ms.gov have nearly doubled. To accommodate the increase in mobile users, the nationally recognized ms.gov features a fully responsive design that allows ms.gov to be optimally displayed to the end user on a wide range of devices.

The State's official website offers a variety of government-related services and information 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The site provides numerous online resources to Mississippians, including information on living and working in Mississippi, professional license renewals, advanced state agency and social media directories, and much more. ms.gov also provides more than 135 interactive services allowing users to complete personal and business transactions online. Since January 2013 close to 1 million users have visited the State's official website.

The ms.gov portal is developed and managed at no cost to the state and is the result of a unique public-private partnership between Mississippi's eGovernment partner, Mississippi Interactive (MSI), a subsidiary of NIC (NAS: EGOV) , and the State of Mississippi. .
