James Beard Foundation Announces Taste America® 'Local Dish' Restaurant Fundraising Program

Diners can now order limited-time only Taste America "Local Dishes" at participating restaurants to help raise funds in support of the Foundation's educational programs through October 31

Chase Sapphire Preferred® to double the amount raised nationally, donating up to $100,000, for the James Beard Foundation Taste America Education Drive

WILMINGTON, Del.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Diners across the country can now order limited-time only dishes at participating restaurants to help raise funds for the Foundation's educational programs through the James Beard Foundation's Taste America® 'Local Dish' program.

As part of the James Beard Foundation's Taste America®: Local Flavor from Coast to Coast national traveling food festival, the Foundation enlisted chefs across the country to create an exclusive "Taste America Local Dish" menu item that celebrates their city's local flavors. For each Local Dish sold between September 1 and October 31, $1 will be donated by the participating restaurant to the James Beard Foundation's Taste America Education Drive.

Chase Sapphire Preferred®, a presenting sponsor of the Taste America food festival, will amplify the program's philanthropic impact by donating two times the amount raised nationally, up to $100,000, to the James Beard Foundation Taste America Education Drive.

"The Local Dish program gives dining enthusiasts a chance to make a difference by doing what they already love - discovering delicious new local cuisine," said Jennifer Roberts, president, Chase Card Services.

Diners can visit http://www.jbftasteamerica.org/local-dish for a full list of participating restaurants.

Additionally, the James Beard Foundation also aims to inspire diners to share their dining experiences through the Local Dish Challenge Instagram contest. Diners can help a local food charity in their city win a $10,000 donation from the James Beard Foundation by posting a photograph of their Taste America Local Dish to Instagram with #JBFTasteAmerica and the hashtag of their city. After Instagram photo uploads of Taste America Local Dishes are tallied, the James Beard Foundation will award $10,000 to a designated local food charity in the city with the most photo uploads.

"Food enthusiasts across the country now have extra incentive to enjoy and show off their favorite Taste America dishes," said Susan Ungaro, president of the James Beard Foundation. "Our Local Dish Challenge provides another opportunity for people who love dining to participate in Taste America and help support a deserving local food charity in their own backyard."

About the James Beard Foundation:

Founded in 1986, the James Beard Foundation's mission is to celebrate, nurture, and honor America's diverse culinary heritage through programs that educate and inspire. A cookbook author and teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge about food, James Beard, who died in 1985, was a champion of American cuisine. He helped educate and mentor generations of professional chefs and food enthusiasts, instilling in them the value of wholesome, healthful and delicious food. Today the Beard Foundation continues in the same spirit by administering a number of diverse programs that include educational initiatives, food industry awards, scholarships for culinary students, publications, chef advocacy training, and thought-leader convening. The Foundation also maintains the historic James Beard House in New York City's Greenwich Village as a "performance space" for visiting chefs. In September of 2012, the Foundation launched the Diplomatic Culinary Partnership with the U.S. Department of State's Office of Protocol and helped create the American Chef Corps as a way to champion American chefs abroad, promote American food products and foster an interest in American culinary culture and history through international programs and initiatives.
