NIC State Partners Take Four of the Top Five Website Awards in the U.S.

Tennessee takes No. 1 spot for the first time in state history

OLATHE, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- NIC Inc. (NASDAQ: EGOV), the dominant provider of eGovernment services, congratulates four of its state partners for being ranked among the Top 5 best state government websites in the country. The rankings were announced by the Center for Digital Government as part of its annual "Best of the Web" competition.

For the first time in the state's history, Tennessee took top honors, ranking as the best state government website in the country. The official state website,, now includes a modular design that resembles the experience of a mobile application, and supports on-the-spot interactivity with embedded news and videos. has ranked in the Top 10 of the Best of the Web competition eight times since partnering with NIC in 2000.

Utah placed second in Best of the Web this year, with South Carolina and Maine in fourth and fifth places, respectively. This is the first time that South Carolina has ranked among the top state websites in the country. NIC partners Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nebraska, Rhode Island, and Texas were recognized as finalists.

The Center for Digital Government is an international research and advisory institute on the use of information technology in government. The "Best of the Web" Awards will be presented September 13, 2013 in San Francisco.
