California United Bank Continues Support of SHAWL Women's House

CUB SVP, Emily Hamilton, maintains role as Board President and leads SHAWL's event fundraising efforts

GARDENA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- California United Bank ("CUB" or "the Company"), a subsidiary of CU Bancorp (NAS: CUNB) , today announced the continuation of its support of SHAWL Women's House in San Pedro. SHAWL (Support for Harbor Area Women's Lives) Women's House provides comprehensive services to homeless women who are affected by drugs and alcohol addiction, and physical and emotional abuse. In addition to funding the development of SHAWL's new website, CUB will be the primary sponsor of SHAWL's second annual "Evening of Hope" Gala to take place Sept. 20, 2013. CUB Senior Vice President of Human Resources Emily Hamilton will also continue as SHAWL Board President, a position she accepted after spearheading the effort to create SHAWL's first "Evening of Hope" Gala in 2012.

"Emily Hamilton has literally changed the entire dynamic of our organization," noted SHAWL Executive Director Laurie Whalen-Martinez. "We never had a major event before, and now 'Evening of Hope' is our largest fundraiser. Moreover, the synergy she creates among our board members has brought a new level of engagement to the group, greatly increasing the success of our community outreach."

SHAWL Women's House has seen homeless, addicted women respond positively to a supportive and structured program. SHAWL has a good success rate with graduates of the program remaining substance free and retaining employment to become self-sufficient. "You immediately feel so much hope and inspiration as soon as you step inside the house," commented Ms. Hamilton. "It is a privilege to serve as Board President."

"Between Emily's dedication, the presence of other CUB employees at our events and CUB's financial support, words cannot describe how deeply grateful we are to California United Bank," concluded Ms. Whalen-Martinez.
