A guide to finding your perfect liquid eyeliner

Nars Eyeliner Stylo, $27
Best for: Experimenting with Color

Fine and pointy, the Nars Eyeliner Stylo glides on like a dream. Aside from coming in a plethora of colors, the rich pigment lasts all day long, and is great for those who want to try colored eyeliner but are still hella leary of looking like a baby pageant winner fromToddlers and Tiaras. Which is fine… we totally respect that. However, it might be a bit much if you’re at brunch, or work.

Eyeko Skinny Liquid Liner, $16.50
Best for: Staying put

If you’re in need of satiating your cat eye obsession, you should definitely say hello to Eyeko. Easy to use and relatively wallet-friendly, this brilliant applicator gives a smooth look that won’t smudge mid-day. Which is great for us because no one wants to accidentally look like Peggy Moffitt. Actively deciding to apply makeup like a 1960’s icon. Is. A. Choice. And there’s nothing worse than having a weird moist black line in the crease of your eye socket when it wasn’t invited to your face party.

Topshop Magic Liner in Engraved, $14
Best for: Beginners

Unfussy and perfect for beginners, Topshop’s Magic Liner is perfecto for those who are in need of some easy swish and flick action. The felt tip applicator gives a thin line that goes on super smooth and the price is cheaper than an IMAX ticket—but more expensive than a dinner at the fine dinning establishment, TGIF. Both of which have nothing to do with this purchase.

Illamasqua Precision Ink Eyeliner, $27.50
Best for: Surviving summer humidity

Humidity got you down? You’re among friends, we understand. Swamp face is a serious condition, one that affects thousands of helpless make-up lovers. With that being said, Illamasqua is all over this awful affliction. The precise applicator allows for the blacker than black opaque color to slip on like liquid silk, and it’s also waterproof. Your move, humidity.

Bonus: It comes in a glorious burgundy brown shade.

Rimmel London Exaggerate Liquid Liner, $6.29
All Around Favorite

Meet your new BFF. Coming in under seven bucks, the Rimmel London Exaggerate Liquid Liner is quite the bargain. Great for those with wobbly hands, this little darling will give you a thick black sexy (phrasing) line that will last all day. Besides being super easy to use, it’s perfect for those who are that constant chase for the ever-elusive and subtle line.

Bonus: The Rimmel rates high in the sob-o-meter. You know, just in case you’re going through a breakup, or you’re still really sad that you missed the Alexander Wang give away. Us too, us too.

When it comes to liquid eyeliner, we've decided it's time to manage our expectations because honestly, not all liquids are created equally. Some make you look like a giant Japanese anime panda, while others rub off quicker than you can say "I wanna be Blue Ivy so I can rock her baby Tom Ford heels."

With that in mind, we've searched far and wide to find you the best of the best. 'Cause we care about you, and we know that just like us, you're still trying to figure out how to replicate that damn Alexa Chung signature flick.
