Jamba® Eliminating Use of Styrofoam Cup Across Entire System

EMERYVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Jamba Juice Company (NASDAQ; JMBA), a leading healthy, active lifestyle brand with over 750 stores across the U.S., announced today that the Company has begun introducing a new, more ecofriendly cup to hold its popular smoothies. The Company began rolling out the new cup in several markets in June and will have eliminated the use of Styrofoam cups across its entire system by the end of 2013.

Jamba has spent several years researching materials that would be more friendly to the environment than Styrofoam while still having the strength to support Jamba's rich, thick smoothies. The Company tested several options before landing on an innovative paper design that successfully meets this need. Many materials currently used to make beverage cups will lose their integrity within several minutes of containing a thick, frozen drink such as a smoothie. Jamba's new cup maintains its structure, is made from renewable materials, and provides a superior customer experience.

"We have spent several years researching a solution that would allow us to move away from the Styrofoam cup, while still offering a quality product to our consumers," said Jamba Juice chairman, president and CEO James D. White. "As a Company with a strong concern for people and the planet, we continually seek to improve our environmental footprint across all areas of our business, and our move to this innovative paper cup is a major milestone in these efforts. I am proud of the hard work our team has put forth over the past few years in finding a more viable solution for our cups."
