Fuel Tech Awarded Air Pollution Control Orders Totaling $6.4 Million
WARRENVILLE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Fuel Tech, Inc. (NAS: FTEK) , a world leader in advanced engineering solutions for the optimization of combustion systems and emissions control in utility and industrial applications, today announced the receipt of four air pollution control (APC) contracts in China, along with two APC orders in the US. In addition, Fuel Tech was engaged to perform engineering studies for Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technologies. These awards and projects have an aggregate value of approximately $6.4 million.
The first three awards in China are for ULTRA™ systems from existing utility customers for use on six medium-sized coal-fired units that are being retrofitted with nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction technology. Fuel Tech's ULTRA process provides for the safe and cost-effective on-site conversion of urea to ammonia for use as a reagent in the selective catalytic reduction of NOx, eliminating the hazards associated with the transport, storage and handling of anhydrous or aqueous ammonia.
A contract was also received for a Flue Gas Conditioning (FGC) system from a repeat customer in China using sulfur and urea as the conditioning reagents. The ammonia needed for the FGC process is generated using Fuel Tech's ULTRA technology, expanding its use beyond SCR applications. FGC systems improve the efficiency of particulate collectors, also known as electrostatic precipitators (ESPs). FGC systems provide a low capital cost approach to improving ash particulate capture versus the alternatives of installing larger ESPs or fabric filter technology to meet regulatory requirements for particulate and opacity levels. Equipment deliveries for these ULTRA and FGC contracts are expected to occur in the fourth quarter of 2013.
In the US, two orders were received for NOx reduction projects for a medium- sized utility coal-fired boiler in the Midwest, and for a Northeast industrial biomass unit. These projects will deliver in the fourth quarter of 2013, and will utilize Fuel Tech's HERT™ High Energy Reagent Technology™ and NOxOUT® SNCR injection technologies.
