Nuance's NDEV Mobile Developer Program Gives Voice to TV Apps

NDEV Expands with Beta Access to Speech for TV Apps, as well as 11 New Text-to-Speech Voices, Additional Languages and PhoneGap Plug-In for Web Developers

BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nuance Communications, Inc. (NAS: NUAN) today announced that its NDEV Mobile developer program now offers beta access to voice capabilities specifically designed to support Smart TV use cases. Third-party developers can include Nuance's powerful voice recognition and text-to-speech in TV-related apps, providing consumers with an intuitive and interactive experience for the digital living room and beyond. Nuance will give developers the opportunity to go hands-on with the new TV speech language models at the TV of Tomorrow Hackathon in San Francisco, CA on June 22, 2013.

NDEV is also further empowering mobile developers with 11 new text-to-speech voices and three new languages, creating additional opportunities for unique and differentiated apps around the world. Developers now have access to more than 40 languages and 61 voices for text-to-speech. New voices span Greek, Romanian, Russian, French, Mandarin Chinese, Irish English, and others, driving further personalization across a variety of global applications.

"NDEV's global success continues, with over 16,000 developers taking advantage of our program," said Matt Revis, vice president and general manager, Dragon Devices, Nuance. "And by expanding developers' access to TV language models, we are simplifying and enhancing the way people interact with TV content on their devices and in their living rooms."

NDEV is also expanding its capabilities to the web app community with a PhoneGap plug-in for Android, iOS and WindowsPhone, connecting the PhoneGap framework to the Dragon Mobile SDK. As a result, developers have an even easier way to integrate powerful cross-platform network speech in their web apps running on iOS, Android and Windows Phone - across all of NDEV's languages and voices.

Leading brands in navigation, health and fitness, lifestyle, food, gaming, messaging, social networking and web browsing applications have recognized the benefit of integrating Dragon technology into their applications, including OnStar RemoteLink, Coupons.com's Grocery iQ, SnapGuide, Price Check by Amazon, Merriam-Webster, SayHi Translate, Dolphin, Kraft iFood App, Grainger, Bon'App, Dolphin Sonar, Sonico iTranslate, and many others.

Availability: The Dragon Mobile SDK is available for iOS 5.0 and higher (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), Android 2.3 and higher, Windows Phone 7.5, and via an HTTP REST interface.
