Mississippi's Official Website, ms.gov, Launches New Design with Impressive and New Innovations

JACKSON, Miss.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Mississippi has launched an innovative and impressive follow up to the State's Official award-winning website. The 2013 launch of ms.gov was inspired by the fast growing tablet and smartphone markets of today while utilizing the same cutting edge technology, beautiful imagery, and modern design that propelled ms.gov forward in 2012. Over the last year mobile visits to ms.gov have nearly doubled.

"Listening to users of ms.gov was a very important aspect in this design process," said Deanna Gronlie, General Manager of Mississippi Interactive (MSI). "Citizens are more mobile today and it's our job to continue to evolve and focus on how Mississippians want to interact with Government."

Among the many new innovative features is a fully responsive design that allows ms.gov to be optimally displayed to the end user depending what device they are using.

Dr. Craig Orgeron, Mississippi's Chief Information Officer and Director of the Department of Information Technology Services, described what inspired the vision for the redesign. "From the beginning, the inspiration for this design has been the residents and businesses of Mississippi. With today's technology rapidly changing, how we do business and interact with one another is changing as well. We feel this mobile first approach addresses the demands of our end user and continues to propel Mississippi as a leader in eGovernment."

The design is touch-enabled for all mobile devices and incorporates swipe-sliders and content box flips into the touch enabled innovations. "The new site looks incredible and is very user friendly," said one user of the new ms.gov and an ms.gov Facebook follower posted that "the site just looks amazing."

Enhancing ms.gov's voice on the web is found in its presence on social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo and Tumblr. "Our goal is to engage the end user while keeping them informed about new features and relevant content offered through ms.gov," said Ms. Gronlie. The new ms.gov also features, videos, facts and quick links that enable users to quickly find services and information about Mississippi. Ms.gov's social media channels have all seen significant increases in its following base since launch. The Facebook page alone gained over 150 followers and reached over 15,000 people.

Under the self-funded model the ms.gov designs and enhancements, valued at more than $384,000, were developed at no cost to the State or the citizens by Mississippi's eGovernment partner, Mississippi Interactive (MSI), a subsidiary of NIC (NAS: EGOV) , and the State of Mississippi.
