As the face of the French fashion house, J. Law obviously rocked Christian Dior. The black net overlay on her headpiece gave her a little gothic glam edge, no?
While not totally on-theme, Gwyneth looked stunning in hot pink, and the cutout stripe kept things interesting.
The designer sported one of her own creations, and we can't say we loved the fur-trimmed robe on the red carpet.
The actress certainly kept on theme with a plaid Vivenne Westwood, but we're not sure about those fishnet tights.
Once we pried our eyes away from Nicole's daring dye job, we fell in love with this embroidered High Street creation!
Kerry looked gorgeous in purple, but those long black leather gloves were a lot to handle.
We loved this tie-dye creation on the runway, but think a more fresh-faced makeup look would have suited Elle much better.
Sheer tangerine wasn't exactly the picture of punk, but we thought Ashley looked too pretty not to love it anyway!
Taylor has been having a lot of "perfect ten" moments on the red carpet lately, and this stunner is no exception - she looked bangin'!
It wasn't exactly the most steam punk look at the Gala, but how could we not love a show-stopping back like this?
We normally love everything Sienna wears, but the combination of her dress, jacket, and teased hair was a little too messy for us.
Cameron managed to pull off super chic while maintaining the steam punk vibe with a studded belt.
Kim is always up for a fashion risk, but this gloved dress ended up missing the mark.
Navy is a good color for Ms. Minaj, but we're not sold on the cutouts.
Stacy's studded ensemble was the perfect fit for the steam punk theme.
It was definitely worth the wait to see Queen Bey in this long-trained stunner.
"I tried," Tory said of her steam punk creations. She tried, and she definitely succeeded - Jessica is the perfect combination of pretty and punk!
Oxblood makes for a gothic glam statement.
From her white lace dress to her gothic dark red lip, we loved Rooney's look
Solange Knowles, never one to be upstaged by her sister, stunned in this funky blue printed number.
Animal print isn't the first thing that comes to mind when we think of steam punk, but we're not sure we love this look anyway.
We certainly weren't expecting to see Anne as a blonde, but we love the bold look - and she looks fabulous in that dress!
Kate is looking a little redundant - she blends in perfectly with the red carpet!
Any girl who can rock Topshop on the red carpet is a win in our book.
We're not sure what to think of Katy's straight off the runway D&G creation - we're not big fans of the crown, either.
The metal embellishments on Aubrey Plaza's dress felt a little haphazard to us.
Those blond spikes paired with a mesh dress were a little too rough around the edges for our taste.
Chloe looked gorgeous in all black.
Nina was the epitome of punk glam in this amazing Monique Lhuillier gown.
This Zac Posen gown fit Uma Thurman like a glove.
There's definitely such thing as too many feathers, and we're afraid this is one of those dresses.
Minka took a risk with this dress, but we think she hit it out of the park!
Katie Holmes looked elegant and simply ethereal in this flowing Calvin Klein.
Between the business of the gown and all of the accessories, we're afraid this one is a miss.
Emmy looked like a rockstar in this Donna Karan, with perfectly-punk jewelry and makeup.
We wish Ivanka had taken more of a risk, this doesn't seem very punk to us!
Karolina rocked this minidress, and we love that she totally embraced the theme of the night.
SJP went. all. out. And seriously, we couldn't be more in love.
Elizabeth Banks looked amazing in this gold minidress, and we think she was totally punk-chic.
It wasn't a big risk, but Blake took the red carpet by storm.
We saw lots of fabulous Givenchy on the red carpet, but this one seemed to swallow Florence Welch right up.
Miranda isn't afraid to show some skin, and she looked stunning in this Michael Kors gown!
Renee played it super safe with this Prada, to the point that we're wondering: did she know where she was going?
Emma Watson is one of our favorite young fashionistas, and she didn't disappoint in this Prabal Gurung gown.
Oh, Madonna. She clearly embraced the theme 110%, but we really wish she'd chosen to wear pants!
This feels a little more goth than punk...
K. Stew was recently named Glamour UK's Best Dressed Woman of 2013, and we think they had the right idea. This theme is perfect for Kristen, and this red Stella McCartney was on-point.
We appreciate Rosie taking a risk -- and if anyone can pull off this sheer number, she can -- but we just weren't huge fans of this dress.
BACK TO SLIDE
This year, fashion addicts rejoiced when it was announced that the Metropolitan Museum of Art's spring exhibition would be "PUNK: Chaos to Couture," which meant one thing, punk was taking over the red carpet. This year a who's who of celebrities and designers arrived dressed in their punk-inspired best. While some truly embraced the theme, others took a much safer approach.
15-year-old actress, Elle Fanning took a HUGE risk in a tie dye Rodarte gown with fierce blue eyeshadow, while Rooney Mara was a vision in white wearing Givenchy. We saw pops of floral and pink on a pregnant Kim Kardashian, Anna Wintour and a whole lot of pink on Gwenyth Paltrow. Whether they were dressed in spikes like Sienna Miller wearing Burberry, or a slinky sheer dress like Miley Cyrus in Marc Jacobs, the red carpet was full of surprises.
