Get Olivia Wilde's Smoky Revlon Red Carpet Look
When Olivia Wilde stepped onto the red carpet for the premiere of The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, all eyes were on her. And to be more specific, all eyes were on her eyes.
We got to speak with her makeup artist, Melanie Inglessis, and she told us that's exactly the look she was going for (which only took about an hour to do - we know, amazing right?!).
She told us that while the look was based on the amazing black Gucci dress Wilde wore, it was also based around her "perfect eyes." She called it an "Olivia eye," because a smoky, rock and roll look is a favorite for the star.
Inglessis kept Olivia's skin looking dewy by applying "a luminous foundation with a wet sponge all over the face. Next I applied a warm creamy blush to the apples of the cheeks, this helped soften the overall look and keep her looking young and fresh."
To make Olivia's dramatic smoky eye, she started by "tracing both top and bottom rims with a thick black line," because as she told us, "The darker around the rim of the eyes, the sexier the eyes will look." She then applied a dark cream shadow all over the lid, and added dimension by topping that with a dark burgundy powder shadow.
When asked about Olivia's beauty habits that keep her looking great. Melanie told us that she is really smart about keeping to a simple routine: drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated, as well as knowing the benefits of good lip balm and the occasional eye mask.
One of Inglessis's favorite makeup tools (that she believes every woman needs!) is pencil eyeliners. She loves them because they can make a smoky eye and tons of other looks that you're in complete control of, because you can use your fingers to move the product around, making different looks with the color. She also loves that they come in such a range of hues.
In conjunction with our beauty mistakes series, we of course asked her if there was anything she noticed among the stars! She told us that she thinks women need to pay close attention to their foundation choices: with so many colors offered from a ton of different markets, it's easy to choose the wrong color. She also encourages us to not get too attached to one eyeliner color, but to embrace all of the options out there.
