Late last year, we got our first taste of The Drowning, DeNA and Scattered Entertainment's upcoming free-to-play FPS (first person shooter), which is set to launch sometime this year. While the storyline and images for the game already looked impressive, the idea of playing a "hardcore" shooter on an iOS device comes with a few challenges - specifically, coming up with a control scheme that offers precision but is also easy to use.

Thankfully, Scattered Entertainment's Ben Cousins hopes to put any confusion about the controls to rest via a new trailer that explains how we'll play. Hint: we'll be able to play using just two fingers on one hand.

Set in a post-apocalyptic environment where normal humans and animals have been turned into monsters by dangerous oil spills, The Drowning will allow players to skip virtual control sticks and instead use pinches, taps and other gestures. For instance, shooting a target is achieved by tapping with two fingers. "The Drowning is all about skill," says Cousins, as players will need to tap on the screen fast enough to hit a target before getting hit themselves, while also taking enough time to aim in their minds before ever touching the screen.

Moving your character and the camera are achieved by either tapping on the ground or tapping and dragging your finger around the screen to change the camera's angle. Finally, pinch and zoom controls allow you to zoom in to view enemies or important objects in the distance. We're not going to lie, the controls in The Drowning definitely look like they'll take some getting used to, but we're excited to check the game out when it launches later this year.

What do you think of the control layout for the Drowning on iPhone or iPad? Are you looking forward to trying this game out for yourself? Sound off in the comments!
