We don't know about you, but there are some very dedicated Downton Abbey fans here at StyleList. Not only are we are in love with the characters and engrossed by their stories, we are also obsessed with the way they emulate the fashion of the 1920's. It's season three, the beginning of the flapper era, and we can't get enough of the glitz, glam, and that fabulous classic hair.

The style of the characters on set is of course quite different from the actors' style in real life, but that just makes it more fun! Check out the difference in makeup, hair and clothing. Though we know stars have to wear a decent amount of makeup while filming, the artists on set of Downton do an excellent job of keeping the characters looking natural, with minimal-looking makeup. The transformation is quite drastic when they amp up the glam for the red carpet, but it just goes to show how these actors are naturally beautiful, and how makeup only enhances their look.

As far as hair, the 20's waves are so in right now, so it's interesting to see how the actors bring this into their 'dos now, taking a page out of Lady Mary's book! And the elegant silhouettes of the Downton Abbey costumes are unique to the time, yet still amazingly timeless. We think Michelle Dockery should dress always as if it's the 20's, though we love that Elizabeth McGovern goes for a more flirty, modern flair.

Click through the gallery above to see some photos from the set of Downton Abbey, and compare them yourselves to the style of the stars in real life!
