Anne Hathaway took on the Women's Media Awards in an ensemble that's easy to emulate, and even easier on the eyes. Her formfitting LBD cuts inwards at the neckline, which provides a universally flattering cut for sculpted (or nonsculpted) arms. The longer hem is appropriate for Winter festivities, but leaves enough room at the bottom to keep the calves lengthened, rather than shortened. Her look may be simple, but it's not dull. Just add a cropped fur coat (our pick is faux!), minimalistic jewelry, and a great black pump, and you're out the door.

Gwyneth Paltrow keeps her all-black mix classic, opting for a menswear-style coat and silky black trousers — then she turns up the drama on a monochromatic palette with a pair of fringed heels. All you need to adopt this look for a night out is a slinky tank underneath.

Take Kristen Stewart's smoldering play on all-black straight out to date night — seriously, can we talk about how hot this look is?! Her black-on-black spin only gets sexier with slick layered leather, tough-girl heels, and sultry eyeliner.

Karolina Kurkova's slick black leather-on-leather is begging to be worn for a hot night out. Pair a fitted bomber with a sleek leather pencil skirt, then add drama with a burgundy lip and a perfect pair of pumps.

As an alternative to the usual cocktail wear, Olivia Palermo styled up a deconstructed suit look, looking to textured layers and subtle sparkle for added intrigue. We especially love the black pearls to finish it off.

For a sexy spin on the all-black look, embraceVictoria Beckham's look via a black top with perforated detailing, a cropped blazer, and tiered miniskirt. The look gets added edge from a pair of open-toed booties.

Taylor Swift's black on black is a nod to the classics, with a short-sleeved knit (we like one with peplum for an even sweeter style), skinny black pants, and bow-adorned pumps. Add the perfect pop of red on your lips — and maybe some retro-inspired waves, à la Taylor — for the full effect.

Stacy Keibler gave us a sophisticated play on black, with added interest via varying lengths on her layers — perfect for a night out to dinner.

Black-on-black may just be the new black.

It appears a few of our favorite style setters are embracing their darker side with all-black outfits that prove just how chic a more subversive black-on-black palette can be.

Opting for head-to-toe monochromatic black ensembles for everything from cocktail parties to TV appearances, this crew, like Kristen Stewart in a sexy take on black leather, and others, like Anne Hathaway - spotted at last night's Women's Media Awards - in the most universally flattering LBD, refute any theories that all-black is boring and just one-dimensional. In every case, we're loving their plays on the dark side, a testament to the fact that black isn't so basic anymore.
