When Two (Style) Worlds Collide, You Get These 10 Dressy Sweatshirts

The minute we spotted this gray silk iridescent sequined sweatshirt by Phillip Lim ($995), we knew we'd never feel the same about "dressy" sweatshirts. It's literally a party of one on top, with all the appeal of something comfortable and sporty. All you need is a pair of slim-cut black trousers, ankle-strap pumps, and a snakeskin clutch (just a suggestion), and you're ready to hit the party circuit.

Following suit on the baroque trend, Zara's brocade knit sweatshirt ($70) gives us everything we need in the way of dark, moody romance with a side of textural elegance.

As part of the eBay Holiday Collective, the Tibi Quixote lace short-sleeve sweatshirt ($85) has been high on our shopping list for a while now, but now its lacy finish is ours for the snagging. It can be yours, too. Wear it with a waxed/coated pair of jeans and patent-leather loafers for a dressy-meets-low-key look.

A festive, red-sheened topper with a classic houndstooth print provides the perfect amount of holiday dynamic, so you needn't do much else in the way of bold accessorizing. The best part? This piece really exists: J.Crew Collection houndstooth popover($525).

There's something totally vintage-y (like, maybe you found this at the back of your cool grandma's closet) about this April, May Noa sweatshirt ($257). The antiqued paillettes and metallic sequins punch up this casual topper tenfold, and we have to say, it's an eye-catching choice.

For the girl who wants to keep her flashy fashion more subtle, this ASOS two-toned sweatshirt ($60) plays to both a laid-back sensibility and a party-loving personality. WIth one look at it, you'll know what we mean.

It's all about the strategic studding on this Topshop beaded textured sweatshirt ($90), and we're pretty sure the edgier styler would agree. If you're just grabbing drinks, this embellished option would go great with a black leather jacket and a fuller circle skirt.

This may be the only time we'll tell you it's OK to look like a full-on disco ball, and who can blame us? This Alice + Olivia Evelina Top ($396) sets a very festive tone all by itself, but rest assured it isn't too over-the-top. Just remember to go easy on the rest of the styling points: neutral tones are your best friend.

The drawstring detail at the hem of this Mango flower-print sweatshirt ($50) gives whole new meaning to proportional play. Keep it more relaxed with denim and heels, or cinch it in with a slimmer pencil-skirt silhouette; it works either way.

Sometimes all you need is a little sparkle (and feathered detail) to put a luxe spin on your party wares. Case in point: the L'Agence raglan sweatshirt($300), a key staple in your holiday wardrobe, especially when paired with a longer pencil skirt or a miniskirt-and-opaque-tights combo.

We'll tell you this right now: this is as close as you'll get to wearing your sweats to a party.

Seriously. In the same vein as other punched-up loungewear, you get the best of both worlds. Let's be clear, though: this is kind of a harvest-moon situation. Yes, you can don these dressy sweatshirts year-round, but we find that these ultraembellished, lace-covered, bejeweled, and feathered iterations make the best statement during the holidays.

Instead of opting for a festive cocktail dress, go with something that's fun, eye-catching, and that basically solves all your styling problems in one go. There's a 3.1 Phillip Lim sequined, colorblocked top (pictured here) that we're betting even the sportiest styler will fall for, but if you're not one for the sparkle, don't sweat it. We've got more subtle metallic foiling and houndstooth print where that came from. Ten, to be exact.

Now, all that's left to do is add a slick pair of black trousers and pumps - or a pencil skirt, if you're feeling sexy - and you're ready to hit the holiday party circuit.
