Alabama.gov Named Best Government Website by Web Marketing Association

The Web Marketing Association honors Alabama's official state website with Best of Industry 2012 WebAward

MONTGOMERY, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Web Marketing Association recently announced Alabama's official state website, http://www.alabama.gov, as the Best Government Website award winner during its annual WebAward Competition for outstanding achievement in Web development. More than 2,000 entries from 42 countries were judged in 96 industry categories during this year's competition, with entries being scored on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation and use of technology.

Since 1997, the Web Marketing Association's WebAward program has been helping interactive professionals promote their best work to the world. Now in its 16th year, the WebAward Competition has become the premier award event for Web developers and marketers worldwide.

"Each year, website development continues to evolve, constantly making the Internet a very competitive place to do business," said William Rice, President of the Web Marketing Association. "As companies and other organizations engage audiences online, websites have evolved into a critical business tool. Each year the WebAwards receives amazing entries from around the world that show impressive creativity and functionality. Winning a WebAward is a great way to demonstrate the effectiveness of your Web development efforts. We congratulate all of our winners for developing websites that deliver for their audiences."

Alabama Interactive, the State's official eGovernment solutions partner, completed the Alabama.gov site redesign without the use of taxpayer dollars, and based new design enhancement on citizen feedback. Beneficial for all visitors, Alabama.gov now features a responsive design that formats automatically to the device used to visit the site, whether laptop, smart phone, or tablet device. As for information, the new Alabama.gov allows visitors to more easily discover useful local, state and federal government information including a live chat option and the ability to sign up for emergency alerts. The site also features an interactive social media portal which provides links to RSS feeds, Twitter and Facebook pages and more from elected state officials and representatives.

The Alabama.gov website also received first place in the The Center for Digital Government's Best of the Web competition earlier this year.
