Sept. 12.

That's the date the tech world will be watching as Apple (NAS: AAPL) unveils its iPhone 5 to the world. That puts us at T-minus seven days to the event, so investors need to make sure they're fully prepared for the opportunities that lie within.

This year's model will put up massive unit sales figures. Some estimates range as high as 250 million units throughout the product's life cycle, which would more than double lifetime unit sales to date. For numerous component suppliers, that spells profits as they ride on Apple's coattails to riches. Leading up to the event, I'm going to outline a handful of companies that I think will be winners of the iPhone 5.

Cellular baseband processor: Qualcomm
The new iPhone is practically guaranteed to feature 4G LTE cellular data speeds, following in the footsteps of the new iPad, which was Apple's first LTE-capable device. This is a requisite to stay abreast of the competition, as LTE is par for all high-end smartphones nowadays, including those sporting Google (NAS: GOOG) Android.

Qualcomm (NAS: QCOM) has long dominated the baseband processor market and was the exclusive supplier in the iPhone 4S. Its newest chips are expected to be featured in the iPhone 5 and should feature support for just about any wireless standard imaginable as well as reap benefits in power efficiency and consumption, bolstering battery life.

I'm expecting Qualcomm to be a major beneficiary of soaring iPhone unit sales, which is also why I own shares.
