CastleVille Sink or Swim Quests: Everything you need to know

Before you go, we thought you'd like these...

A new set of magical spells and quests has been released in CastleVille this week, and they come from a rather unusual source: a talking frog by the name of Surly Sal. Sal is apparently Alastair's former master, and we've got a lot to learn to reach that level. Let's get started on our look at these Sink or Swim quests, courtesy of Zynga.

Fish in a Tub
  • Place Sal's Tub
  • Have 4 Pails of Water
  • Place 2 Dead Logs

You'll receive one of Alastair's old textbooks early on this quest series, as Sal realizes that Alastair is behind on teaching us spells himself. You'll also earn 2,000 coins, a Moon Well and 40 XP for finishing this first quest.

Catch and Release
  • Collect 3 Dream Catchers
  • Craft 1 Bubbly Grog
  • Place the Moon Well

Dream Catchers are earned by posting a general request for them on your wall. You'll receive your first spell, the Falling Star Spell, for finishing this quest, along with 2,000 coins and 40 XP.

Heavy Rain
  • Cast the Falling Star Spell
  • Mine a Summoned Meteorite 5 Times
  • Harvest 8 Coffee Beans

The Falling Star Spell can be created and cast by using Alchemist's Powders, Pails of Water, Eggs and Down Feathers. After clicking on cast, you'll be able to control a bright green spell area, and will bring a meteorite crashing down to your land after clicking again to actually activate the spell. You'll receive the Harvest Moon Spell, 2,000 coins and 40 XP when you complete this third quest in the series.

Lunch Money
  • Cast the Harvest Moon Spell 2 Times
  • Collect from Enchanted Royal Buildings 4 Times
  • Complete the Moon Well

The Harvest Moon spell will enchant your Royal Buildings, so these two steps go hand-in-hand. You'll receive extra materials when you collect from these enchanted buildings, but whether or not the spell is worth casting after these quests will ultimately be up to you. It requires Sticks of Butter, Honey, Magic Beans and more to cast, so I suppose your use will depend on how readily available these ingredients are in your own Kingdom.

As for the Moon Well, you'll need five Wood Planks, 10 Pails of Water, two Iron Bars and five Stone Blocks to finish it off, as seen above. You'll earn 2,000 coins and 40 XP when you finish this quest.

Out of Focus
  • Collect 3 River Stones
  • Consume 2 Vegetable Cocktails
  • Craft 2 Hard Boiled Eggs

The River Stones are earned by posting a general request on your news feed. You'll earn another 2,000 coins and 40 XP when you finish this quest.

Moon Well Labor
  • Tend 10 Animals
  • Mine Rocks or Collect from Mining Camps 5 Times
  • Upgrade the Moon Well

The Moon Well upgrade requires more building ingredients: six Moonstone, three Steel Bars, two Dye Kits, and three Mortars. Everything needs to be crafted in the buildings in your own Kingdom except the Moonstones, which can be earned by asking your friends to send them to you. You'll receive 2,000 coins, 40 XP and the Big Bang Spell for finishing this quest.

Big Bang Theory
  • Cast the Big Bang Spell on 2 Trees
  • Craft 2 Sweet Buns
  • Collect from 15 Houses

The Big Bang Spell will convert trees into energy. Saplings and tree stumps give you five energy, youth trees give you six energy and mature trees give you seven energy. Another spell awaits you when you finish this quest, as you'll unlock the Zodiac Flash Spell and will also receive yet another 2,000 coins and 40 XP.

Aced Wisdom
  • Cast the Zodiac Flash Spell
  • Feed 2 Animals
  • Collect 2 Hypercrafts

The Zodiac Flash Spell will instantly make a baby animal into one in the youth stage, or an animal in the youth stage into a fully grown adult. This marks the end of Surly Sal's quest series in our Kingdoms, but I wouldn't personally be surprised if he came back around again at a later date. Whatever the case, you'll receive one final set of 2,000 coins and 40 XP for completing this final quest.
